I'm just curious where the locals would choose to live if they could move right this minute. If you'd rather stay right where you are, where is that? Why do these places call to you?

I live in La Mesa but if I could afford to live anywhere in the county, I would choose Encinitas. I love it there.

We looked on and off for several years before buying in San Diego and we bought in the development of Santaluz last year and LOVE it!

I wouldn't have changed a thing! We absolutely love it and the quality of life out here has to be one of the best areas in all of San Diego. All of our friends that come out here are really amazed with the area and development. Nothing like this will ever be duplicated in San Diego again.

We loved many things about the area but the main things were:

- Excellent school district (Poway Unified) for our two young kids (and we plan on having more kids so excellent school district was important to us).

- Gorgeous scenery and environment (the rolling hills out here are really gorgeous). So is the entire development which is quite expansive out here. Plus it's totally pristine out here and they keep it well maintained.

- Safety and security of the area

- Proximity to the ocean (we're 15 minutes from the beaches of Del Mar)

- Quality and beauty of the homes. We couldn't understand why someone would spend the kind of money they do buying in nearby developments like Pacific Highland Ranch in Carmel Valley which didn't seem special to us at all.

- Amazing weather: We avoid much of the marine layer closer to the ocean yet we avoid the hotter temperatures further inland.

Hmm ...

If I were first moving to San Diego County, I might have a much different answer. But having lived here so long, I'm finding it difficult to think outside my "RP rut". It's a boring yet quite comfortable rut. There's not much "here" here, which makes it a pleasantly quiet place to live. My commute to RB for work is short. And, we're not too far from just about everything. Oh - that presupposes that we can drive. If we had to rely on what public transportation there is, my answer would be far different.

Coronado.
Exclusive yet close to everything. Quiet. Bay and Ocean views. Protected well, Coronado PD is always scanning for riff-raff coming across the bridge or up the Strand.

Only drawback is traffic coming off the base. But I could live with that, too bad my budget can't. Cheapest SFR is around a cool million.

I'll just say this, if I would've won the whole dang lottery last week I would stay exactly where I am in South Park, even in the same house although I might upgrade or add a few things.

Not that there aren't some other particularly great places to live here in the city or county- I just don't think I would be any happier there than I am here- my house is sweet, I have a beautiful garden, I can walk to just about anywhere including downtown and my neighbors are freaking amazing- it seems like we are over at each other's houses and gardens for happy hour or dinner a few times a week! I just love the vibe here.
