Does anybody have anything good or bad to say about Jamul?

I like it. We have some friends that have lived out there for years. The main reason I like it is 'cause it feels very rural yet you're not far away from the big city. And right down the road, a beautiful drive to Tecate. A nice place to spend a Saturday afternoon eating tacos, drinking beer and shopping on the square.

Jamul rarely gets a bad word from SD locals, but quite simply, there's not a whole lot of opportunity out there, as far as living. Yes, it's rural, but there
aren't many homes, and it's not too cheap even if there are a few available. It's a tough world out here any way you cut it..

Jamul has some big ranches and mansions on acreage back there. Nice place to live - a little hot in the summer for my tastes.

Default Jamul ARCO AM/PM

I want to tell you all that the ARCO station in Jamul did something that will stand in my mind forever and I will NEVER go in there for anything again....

3 firefighters went to the Arco on Campo road right off Jefferson. They were covered in ash and looked about as tired as could be. They set a few Gatorade's on the counter and then explained to the owner of the station that they didn't have any money on them as they had been fighting the fires in Deerhorn for hours and were dehydrated, but that they would bring the money back to them.

The owner of the Arco REFUSED them the drinks and told them if they did not have any money they could not have any drinks.

The guy standing behind the Firemen stepped up and told the owner that he would pay for the drinks. As he did so - he left on the counter the items that he was going to purchase for himself and told the owner that he would NEVER step foot in the place again and that he would tell everyone about what had just happened and walked out.

I hope you will pass that along to anyone you know that lives near or goes to Jamul.

I live in Jamul.

The story above is a racist urban legend. It did not happen. Unfortunately, such racist stories circulate after every disaster...

Positives about Jamul:
- Good schools
- Small-town feel, active 4-H and community events
- Very convenient to shopping and work
- Livestock allowed in most areas

Negatives about Jamul:
- Real estate is VERY expensive (like anywhere in San Diego)
- Fire danger in most of Jamul is very high
- Jamul Indian Village is trying to build a huge casino right on the freeway that will have tremendous impacts on traffic, property values, etc.
- It's HOT here in the summer (although some people like that!)

Be aware:
- Most of Jamul is on septic systems, and some is on wells
- This is a place close to nature. That means brilliant stars at night and waking up to singing birds, not traffic. That also means rattlesnakes, ticks, black widows, scorpions, and coyotes that eat your chickens.

Have you ever played the Steele Canyon Golf Course in Jamul? Their website looks beautiful.

How about Hotels in Jamul? I couldn't find much to read about on tripadvisor.

There are no hotels in Jamul- it's a very small town! The nearest motels are in El Cajon and La Mesa. Jamul does have a couple of bed and breakfasts.

I live in Jamul and love it. It is rural and has a true sense of community. I am able to ride my horses on the trails. There are good schools and it has been a great place to raise a family.
