Default Adams north does not exist

Adams north is not a community. Normal heights is a century old community that is split by Adams Avenue. Recently someone decided to set the north side of the community apart by coming up with "Adams North." The north side of the community backs up into a canyon so the properties can sell for nearly $1,000,000, but the properties just a few blocks away from the canyon will sell in the low 500, 400 or less.

The south side of Adams have more multi-family buildings, but is not void of single family homes although the houses are generally have a smaller square footage, thus a smaller price tag.

I don't know who made the decision to split our community, because as a homeowner on the south side I did not get a vote.

I seems that it is no coincidence that the south side of Normal Heights also has more people of color. Mexicans, Africans, African-Americans, as well as white people.

I say this because there are two other fairly affluent communities in San Diego in which Adams Avenue also split and there has been no change in the name of their communities. Only ours.

On the East Coast, it's "What school did you go to?

In the South, it's "What family do you belong to?

In California, it's always been "Where do you live?"

Location, location, location......

Communities in San Diego are fluid and ever changing. At one time, Normal Heights started at Texas street. The sign is still there on Adams ave. Today the maps have it starting at 805.

You may be on to something. I'll check to see if there is some new law that prevents blacks and hispanics, or as you say, Mexicans, that keeps them from being able to live in this coveted new area.

Kim Oliver,

Never heard of this,ever.
Who designated this as an official community with in San Diego Proper? I am REALLY doubtful that its official vs a marketing tactic used in real estate listings.

There may be a citizens group calling for sort of "NoAd" designation I suppose, but it would take a lot of pressure on the city council to make that even an agenda item at a meeting.

This has been happening lately in San Diego, I would say in the past fifteen years. The powers to be, I can't really put my finger on who they are....have been renaming neighborhoods for several different reasons. First to disguise a previously run-down neighborhood and second to gentrify some older neighborhoods. You will notice that they don't pull this crap in Rancho Santa Fe.

The area you speak of is and will always be Normal Heights. I had a good friend that lived at the tip of Hawley next to the monastery that will be turning over in his grave about this division. I never lived in Normal Heights proper, but I had a lot of good friends that did and I spent a lot of time at the rec center on Adams and and 35th getting into trouble. I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Adams Avenue Theatre before they were even signed and tons of other bands. God I miss that place!

Trust me..the heart and sole of NH is not acknowledging this change.

I wasn't aware of any hood/barrio in Rancho Santa Fe? Who knew.

This reminds me of the "food desert" argument folks who wail about how these "neighborhoods of color" are underserved and how nothing is being done to "clean up" these areas. Then, when something is done they complain about it. You can't have both.

This thread should be a sticky to be looked at in 10 years. To anyone that DOESNT thing SD is changing and growing at rapid pace.

I dont know if THIS is true or not, but a friend of mine who is house hunting was excited because they submitted an offer for a house in "West Clairemont" proper. Let me tell you how excited they were that it was "west" Clairemont. I have NEVER heard of this as an official designation but it was on the MLS listing. Amusing, yeah definitely. Real? Well I guess if its in print on the MLS it must be true.

I suppose its not much different from North Mission Hills and South Mission Hills which really arent official area in any capacity.
