I checked Yelp, and the CV store closed in 2010. I live behind the store, but rarely shop at it. I just watch all the customers take up all the street parking for the residents.....

NO.............you are in a food desert.................no groceries for "1.25 miles".

Just joking, CV has a lot of places to buy vittles.

Not Poway, it's actually in Escondido.

Northgate Gonzales is in Escondido (as well as in Chula Vista). North Park Produce is in Poway.

The store flyer says that their locations are 3551 El Cajon Blvd North Park (really City Heights), and 12342 Poway Rd in Poway. The Chula Vista and El Cajon location no longer exist, although if they opened another in El Cajon now, it would probably do really well.

Go to Kobey's Swap Meet on the weekends (Sat and Sun).

There are several vendors that sell fruit and vegetables much cheaper than most supermarkets.

Some examples ...

Tomatoes typically .50 per lb

Brocolli sometimes .50 per lb, otherwise .69 per lb

Bell peppers often 2 large or 3 medium pack for $1

Celery nearly always .50 per head of stalks

Cucumbers usually 3 or 4 for $1

Kobeys is also open Friday, but not as many produce vendors are there as on Sat and Sun. The hours are 7am - 3pm.

Kobeys Swap Meet is located near I-8 and I-5 on Sports Arena Blvd in the parking lot of the Sports Arena (currently named Valley View Casinorena ... or something like that?)

Kobeys is a great swap meet for most other stuff as well (new and used). It's the biggest swap meet in San Diego, and usually has around 1000 vendors on Sundays, especially during the summer months.

This past Sunday's swap meet was huge.

Sunday typically has the most vendors. Saturday has slightly less vendors. And Friday is the smallest day, but still very good.

As far as supermarkets go ... for best prices, my personal favorites are Food4Less, Sprouts (formerly Henrys), and Ralphs.

Next would be Vons, and last would be Albertsons.
