Man! you really hate those illegal immigrants! if any corporation hires them, it's usually to do crappy stuff like washing laundry which no one else will do. Immigrants are not the ones that make millions every year like the CEOS.
You are correct about Independents too! I am an Independent. (though I usually vote Democrat) I refuse to vote party lines. There are good politicians and bad on both sides. One party doesn't have all the answers. That's why I like Nathan Fletcher because he echos my thoughts exactly.
Slow down and read what you are looking at. I never said I hate illegals, I said I'm all for busting the dirt bags that hire and abuse them.

... As far as retirement plans, the current proposal seems to make sense for SD City incoming new workers and the 401k style funds. Unfortunately its almost impossible to avoid riskwiht investing. What I want to know is, who will be managing those funds and what is available to the employees in being able to utilize them? Will it be something that an employee can access online and pick and choose or will it more like annuity?
I don't think a 401K by itself is adequate. Heck, I have a 401K *and* social security *and* a pension (though what it'll be worth when I retire is somewhat questionable). And I don't think we've oversaved by any extent.

oddstray, I dont know many companies that even have pensions so you are definitely one up on that one. Do you know if you have the option of a lump sum payout of that pension or have the choice to simply receive the pension monthly for as long as you are alive after you retire?
If there are 401k's, the matched contributions from a company used to be 5-6% on average in my experience. I have seen that percentage drop a point or two since the recession. But that is the whole point. A company can tell its employees that the program is over and change gears. What about public 401k system or whatever it is? I just think its going to be another problem down the line as the devil may be in the details.
Regardless, its incredibly difficult to 'guarantee' any sort of x percentage payout at retirement with the current system that is in place. Simply because at some point those dollars are going to be tied to the greater economy. I dont know how that can be explained to folks that may not have slightest clue about investing, where their money went or how much to expect.
If they earn about the same as you, then fair enough. I highly doubt that they do.
What about a janitor or tree trimmer who doesn't work for the gubment?
Life isn't fair, and I don't understand why public employees should be a protected class. They get paid more and have better stability and benefits than their private sector counterparts. Public safety, education should be the exceptions, they are not for profit enterprise,

I don't agree that they are a protected class.
Talking about janitors or tree trimmers who do work for the gubment ... Given the economic mess than the public sector finds itself, I don't think the 'better stability' is there any more. Better benefits? They weren't ever given the opportunity to get into the social security system. So I'd say different, rather than better.
Public safety ... do you want garbage to accumulate and pollute the streets? If not, then you want janitors. Public safety ... do you want open space growth to spread and die off and burn in the next wildfire? If not, then you want landscapers.
(Education ... OMG I'm not even going to go there. I have a major objection about the so-called 'education' that our government provides.)
I simply believe that all of us should get paid a fair wage that is up to COL standards at the bare minimum.
With more companies downsizing and cutting wages for even more and more profits, how does the government expect the economy to get better? Corporations have a responsibilty to also make sure things improve if they want to continue to be successful and prosperous.
I recently watch the "Big One" by Michael Moore ( Older Movie) on netflix and was disgusted and shocked on how many of our corporations are shutting down manufacturing plants here in the US, not because these companies are losing cash flow, or are in debt, but because they are trying to make even more money at the expense of it's US workers, it's so sad knowing that greed has always prevailed over doing what is right for the goodness of the world. So what happens? Many of these companies are shipping jobs around the world which is nothing new, and paying pocket change wages to it's new employee's .
In the documentary, Moore invited the Nike CEO on a trip to one of Nike's shoe manufacturing plant in Indonesia that payed it's workers $0.87 an hour!
The CEO has never seen or been to the plant, this guy was out of touch with what was going on, that he just didn't care what Moore had to say. Moore even asked the CEO if he would willing to build a Nike plant in Flint, Mich, but he said that "I don't think American's would like to make shoe's for a living" Well Moore proved him wrong when he went back to his hometown and went on local TV and ask the public to show up to the Chamber of Commerce in Flint one morning if they would support making shoes for a living, and hundreds of people showed up and pleaded with Nike's CEO to build a shoe manufacturing plant in Flint that would support the American people.
When Moore went back to Portland and showed the tape of all those people in Flint supporting the cause, Nike's CEO still didn't believe or trusted that Americans would work such a job, so he passed on the people of Flint.
Nike or any other Shoe company makes uber amounts of money by paying poor people in extremely poor countries chump change all day long, some being child laborers.
Well now if these particular companies cared at the very least about American's and supporting a healthier economy here, they would give American's a shot at making shoe's or any sort of apparel. Sure the cost would be higher, and profits would be less, but at least you will have happier and a healthier society that is able to support itself rather than having more and more American's being dependent on government services.
A $60 shoe sold at Footlocker probably cost $5-$10 at the most to make if you include the cost of materials, labor and shipping in countries from China, Pakistan, and Indonesia. So Nike, Reebok, Adidas are raking in massive amounts of money because of dirt cheap labor. Why would these corporations change there ways after all these years? They wont! It's always about the money.
Any "Good" and "Honest, Caring" company would think like honest people do, sacrifice some profit, at the expense of helping and supporting American jobs. A lot of Private companies do this right, it's the Public one's, the bigger than life corporations that are in the stock market, are the most shadiest and careless to deal with.
This is why I will never support Republican causes, it's all out belief in Free Market Capitalism with zero regulations is crazy to me. It only benefits the very few at the highest positions, while everyone at the bottom get's screwed.
Another reason why I believe the oil companies in the US should be Nationalized and controlled by the government to keep the price of gas low. When we allow corporate oil companies to take control of everything, we see the consequences of it, outrageously high gas prices, which then causes a trickle effect on the cost of everything else.
Oil companies shut down refineries on purpose to control the gasoline market, shorting the supply to increase prices. This should be illegal! But see, our government leaders are afraid of going up against Big Oil because of the power they have over electing officials and there campaigns. So see, things will never change as long as we have corporations dominating our government and being able to influence it by any means necessary.
If the government controlled the Oil, the gas tax either would be dramatically less, or completely eliminated since they would own everything. For sure the government wouldn't shorten the supply of gas since it would hurt the economy, in a crazy way I would trust government in this case over any private one that is raping Americans pockets as we speak.
Once Venezuela's reclaimed there oil fields from outside control, they have become a more prosperous nation, instead of importing all there food, they are now actually growing it and are less dependent on imports. By Hugo Chavez taking back there oil from corporate control, has allowed for a better economy for all. Keeping transportation cost extremely low, it makes growing and moving things around the country much cheaper for them.
Of course America is pissed because of it, the only reason why Chavez is hated among the US government and labeled a threat to the world in our local media, is because he refused to export his oil to the US and it's oil companies, and let American influence and it's control comprise it all.
He has the right to do whatever he wants for his people and country, if he doesn't want to export his resources, then so what? That is his will.
This is why we always go to war and secretly assassinate world leaders that are not seen as "US Friendly". We are nation of takers, and the US will do anything and everything to get what it wants when it comes to natural resources, power, influence and control, if that means murdering thousands of innocent people around world to get something we want even though it is immoral and wrong, you can call that truly Evil and a government breaking hundreds of international laws throughout it's history going unpunished. But what country will ever mess with the US?? Everybody is so afraid to **** us off, because if they did, we would just make up some excuse to invade there nation, and take everything from them, set up military bases and stay there forever to make sure things don't get out of hand.
The Repub thugz are well documented at loving war and George W Bush was one huge fan of it.
