so true! i must have fired well over 20 realtors when i sold my house in southern california. in the end, i basically ended up selling it myself as i had two totally green realtors on either side that didn't know which way was up. the seasoned realtors wouldn't listen so this ended up being the only way to go!

yeah, ethics. i have never in my entire life been lied to as many times as i have just in the past year during this process. they truly have no morals in pursuit of their money. i'm not talking about our agent -- she's honest and great -- i'm talking about all of the agents that we've had to deal with through her. lie about having multiple offers in order to start a fake bidding war? no problem. lie about your clients' situation in order to gain sympathy? no problem. it goes on and on.

Ninotchka, just out of curiosity and to share with the forum, what areas are you coming across these agents when house hunting? Just seeing if this is a blanket thing across the county or specific areas/prices.

hi. we're looking in a handful of areas that are pretty spread out, so it seems to just be business as usual for alot of these people. we've heard the same from other homebuyers/sellers (besides on this board) who feel that realtors have become slimy. there are some who are ethical and do the right thing, but it seems like they're few and far between.

What sux is that a lot of good, old school Realtors got washed out during that housing mess between 04-09. We know one guy who we all used that is now driving a truck for a living.

My awesomely cool neighbors received 4 offers on the first day their house was listed, and it's already in escrow with a cash buyer. Talk about a dream scenario! They are moving to Encinitas for the schools and to be close to the beach since the husband is an avid surfer.

I've never heard so many horror stories as I've heard on this forum regarding RE Agents in California. I was an agent in Hawaii and Texas and LOVED IT! Although I did hear about more unhappiness with agents in Texas than I did while in Hawaii. May be the Ethics Codes are not stressed and enforced here by the Brokers.

I am considering getting my license here, because I truly enjoyed the profession; just not sure if I want to totally give up my free time. Since I'm an annuitant, my situation is somewhat different than some of the other agents, because my livlihood is not totally dependent on the commission.

It truly saddens me, though, to hear all this angst WRT agents.
