Thanks for all of the responses.

I'm glad to hear that there are more smaller and medium sized businesses as that's the type of company that I'd like to work in. I'm at a large international software company now and for a variety of reasons something a little smaller was what I was hoping for anyway. Shmoov_groovzs, you've given me some needed confidence and I appreciate it.

I'll definitely use the CA address. My wife's parents are in LA. Do you think this is too far from SD to be used?

To answer the other questions posed, I do have an MBA and I don't speak any other languages, at least not anywhere close to fluently.

Thanks again for all of your help. This forum has been a great resource!

Good luck. You sound like you've got your stuff together and even if it doesn't happen right away, you'll make it.

Yes, maybe. At least from my perspective as someone that hires.

As soon as I see an out of area address on a resume that looks like the stack of others from out of the area, I typically dont consider them. Of course this applies to the sort of positions that are not super specialized.
I always believed that if you want to work somewhere, then be here or at least give the employer some idea that plan is in place.
I know that sounds rough, but in my experience I have gone though too many phone interviews only to find the candidates bailing at the last minute.
Typically the reasons where they found something closer to where they currently live or couldnt justify the general COL.

The internet has been great at find some amazing employes but on the flip side, its also VERY easy for people to just send emails to anyone hoping to hear back.

I am not saying this is your case, but from my point of view, if you possibly can, try to get a local address or be ready to interview when asked. Also make note somewhere in your cover letter that you are already in the process of being in San Diego by X date.
