Google MTS and click the employment tab!
I don't think most of the presently posted positions would be a good fit for the OP, but MTS is definitely a good place to check back from time to time when looking for a job in San Diego.

I say make the jump

Your mother will adjust slowly but surely, and I'm sure she'll be comforted by the fact that y'all (ooops...I mean "you guys"... yes, I grew up in MS and have relatives in Louisiana) will be together instead of being 2000 miles apart. Having lived in many cities around the country and a few overseas, my wife and I have found that San Diego is the perfect "little-BIG city" with so many things to offer, no matter what your age or interests happen to be.

The living pace and attitudes of people are nothing like I expected! Most of the people I meet in my daily activities are rather laid back. I don't think I've encountered any more aggressive drivers here than I did when we lived in south Texas. Bottom line is that your experience here will be what you make of it. Be sure to check out the Crab Hut on Convoy Street when you get here. There are also plenty of music festivals throughout the year in various parts of town. Even if you're not into those things -- eating out or attending festivals -- you'll find your niche since you're young at heart, yet mature enough to avoid financial pitfalls.

Do you plan to find tenants to rent your current home or put it up for sale? We rented our home for about a year before finally selling it, so I know what you're going through. You've already been to San Diego before, so I won't mention the weather, scenery or the fact that we seldom use A/C where I live. Of course, the prices of housing, gasoline, and groceries are considerably higher here than in MS, but I think you'll be okay within the salary range you anticipate because you have no real debt. You'll eventually find work to supplement your husband's salary. Good luck with the move! It's Friday...did your hubby turn in his notice to his current job? Is the moving truck packed yet? LOL

What do you guys think? We loathe it here. The biggest problem is my 82 yr old Mother would be here on her own (20 miles away.) She says she would move to SD once we get settled, etc. The thing is, when we visited SD last year she seemed pretty nervous on her own. (She lives in that wretched Slidell, LA, where the aggression of the people...oh lets not get in to that. JMO of course)
I guess I am just looking for encouragement that we are doing the right thing moving out to SD. I adored it when we were there last year. Also used to live there when I was very young, in fact Mum didn't want to leave SD but had to for Dad's job.
I have hated living in the south the entire time I've been here in fact for a while thought I couldn't go on here. Very mello-dramatic I know but wow it has been just awful for me. The locals can tell I'm not from here.
So I guess what I am asking is do you think we should just do it? I have a degree from Tulane University and hubby already has the offer etc. Do you think I would have a hope of getting hired out there? I'm 55 and really young at heart. Am just afraid of the stereo type California women making me feel awful as I haven't spent a penny on Dr Plastic and the extreme depression living here has made me have a defeatist(sp) attitude about myself and have figured I should keep trying to fit in with the food obsessed lazy lifestyle here. I don't hunt, fish, eat fried crawfish, drink beer, etc.

Please bare with me as I am not myself, infact I feel as though I've had some sort of nervous breakdown here because of the culture shock. Not better than these locals. Just very different.

Any of your positve thoughts would be grately apreciated. And any encouraging things to get Mum to move out to SD as well. She reckons she couldn't afford it. Her house here is paid for. Lovely place on the water. However, she got slammed with Hurricane Katrina. Fourteen feet of water in her house that had to be all repaired by hubby and his friends. She's afraid to go and afraid to stay.

Thanks everyone in advance for even reading my epistle of fear riddled angst.

My dentist is Evelyn Ascough in Hillcrest. I have dental insurance and it is pretty reasonable. You also get to pick and watch a movie while you are worked on!

They also are very gentle which I need because I hate dentists!
