Can anyone tell me where I could bring my 9 month old to trick or treat? I know in some cities you can go to a mall and they pass out candy or have activities.

Many churches have family nights with games, costume parades, candy. . .also, all of our city neighborhoods have kids out, and we all give out bags and bags of candy lol Normal Heights, North Park, Hillcrest, Tierrasanta. . .all pretty safe and most people have their lights on and candy ready

Smile Trick or Treating hot spot

There's a neighborhood of off Magnolia in Santee (by the High School) that is an awesome spot to trick or treat! I'm from a small town on the East Coast and until last year, I had never seen almost an entire neighborhood get together and go all out with decorations, themes, music and choriographed skits. It's great! I'll keep going out there until I find something comparable in the San Diego area.

Do people living upstairs in apartment buildings offer candy? We haven't lived in a trick-or-treating area for years, and I'm not sure how much effort kids will expend to get loot.

Thinking about just going out for the evening to see what entertainment Hillcrest has to offer.

Last year we took our little girl (2 at the time) to Terra Nova shopping center in Chula Vista and she had a blast and she doesn't even eat candy yet....hopefully going to be able to hold off at least until she starts school. That when she'll see other kids eating it alot....we'll see.

Shucks what's the matter with going door-to-door? Find a nice neighborhood and enjoy the fun. This mall stuff just does not seem right. It's like you are afraid to go out and have a real Haloween. What's happening to us?

You must not have kids yet? Its one thing to go to Vegas and gamble a few hundred bucks at the blackjack table , but to gamble your kids health and safety because one SICK F@#KER out there wants to hurt some kids with some taited candy.

Umm no thank you I'll sacrifice "a real Halloween" for my kids health and safety anytime.

Mall and shopping center offer a good SAFE alternative to the tradional Halloween. Im 41 we knew almost everyone in our neighborhood back when I was a kid. Things were different back then....that's "What happened to us" the usually FEW sick F#$KERS ruin it for everyone.

Bunkster, you are falling into the American stereotype of fear and paranoia (that go us this selected failing domestic and international President twice). There is a reasonable compromise of t-or-t'ing at homes you know or houses with kids, etc, rather than the neighborhood weirdos. I don't think a mall is 100% safe, recall 2001-2, with America's fear of a terrorist's strike at the mall, symbol of capitalism (now struggling - maybe Europe's version of capitalism/socialism is what we need to learn from, at least some). I can also imagine some of your SICKO Americans working at a mall. That being said, back in the 1970's when we had the great needle in candy scare, I threw old lady Sadie's candy bar away.
