If you're already voting on state/local issues, why wouldn't you? I get your point that it might not "matter", but... I still don't get why you wouldn't when you have the ballot in front of you and you're already filling it out.

It definitely can for local and state elections. Looks like Democrats will now have a supermajority in the state legislature, which I don't particularly thing is a good thing but we'll see. If more republicans showed up to the polls that might not have happened and there might be a little more balance in this state.

I think what goes on in the state and at the local level has a more immediate and bigger impact than at the federal level, so imo those votes can be very important as sometimes candidates or measures win or lose by just a few hundred votes, sometimes less. Especially in a county like San Diego that is so moderate. Yeah here in the Bay Area your vote for a Republican rep is largely irrelevant but other parts of CA it's not at all.

The main reason I vote is for local and state elections/propositions.

Also gotta say I am very surprised Bilbray might lose, after he won when Cunningham got hauled off to prison for accepting bribes I never thought that district could go to a Dem.

I think for SD this election is a big turning point compared to 08. I wouldn't have been surprised if the county swung back to red for this election but the fact Democrats won big in SD speaks volumes. Now just maintain that moderate political landscape and don't go too far left and end up like the Bay Area or LA .

It may not mathematically matter (unless the electoral goes to the popular vote) if you subscribe to the science of pre-election polling, but it takes 0.0 effort to check the box for your choice, Mike.

On a side note to this, San Diego also sent its first AA to the Legislature in Shirley Weber in the 79th Assembly District.

I'm aware. Just making an observation. More of a slight rant about the shortcomings of the electoral college system, actually. Carry on.

But Obama won both the County and City back in 2008, so it really shouldn't be a surprise that he also won this time.
