Exactly. There are crazies on both sides. I have a Neo-con friend that constantly talks about how he is going to take his guns and protect the country from "Obama loving socialists and communists."

It would be just too sad for me to be with someone who just thought my views meant throwing food stamps at problems.

In fact for some reason I was always physically attracted to clean cut, conservative looking men. So obviously this resulted in some mismatches once we started to talk about issues. So if I were still single, I would have had to be more open to other types- But politics, no. My husband and I talk about social issues all the time, and I am luckily with a kindred spirit. And he just happens to be handsome and clean cut looking. He gets mistaken for a cop a lot. .

As far as friends and family, I have conservative ones and I respect and care for them....but a mate? That would not happen.
Understood. I'm just saying, she complains about liberal guys in Seattle being PC...well 'um doesn't that sort of go with the territory? I think it's important to be with someone whose core values are the same as yours...but that means you sometimes have to sort out what really is a core value for you and what isn't. For someone with liberal leanings, it might mean the guy isn't quite as clean cut looking (although it sounds you were fortunate to get both ).

Downtown, areas around downtown. Ocean Beach is supposed to be SD's traditional hippie area but I wasn't too impressed with it. Lots of panhandlers. Gentrification (hipster transplants) and the Great Recession changed everything. SD's a military town, so you're going to get the jar head types, especially around Coronado and the burbs. But downtown and the surrounding area is a diverse area with some culture, were someone with left of center politics might feel more comfortable.

BTW: just because someone has a useless degree in art history or communications, doesn't qualify them as "educated."

OP, SD a military town with a limited business community/economy. The only liberal men you will find here are either gay, wait tables, or are broke students (exaggerating.. but kind of not). May I suggest San Jose? Plenty of sun and lib men, but they are pretty dorky/wimpy looking (much like the rest of the bay area). If you live in LA area, you can live in Santa Monica, Playa Vista, Mareina Del Rey, or Manhattan Beach.
The military guys could be gay too, as far as you know. And, I'm thinking maybe you do know, considering your whole problem with "wimpy men". Could that have been a Freudian slip, meaning...you prefer buffed out men?

Are you joking? San Diego is a military town, the entire media in SD is driven toward a war agenda. A middle eastern cabbie was beaten within an inch of his life in the gaslamp a few years ago.

You can find politicism in any town, if that's what you're looking for.

I work for a government contractor, and even I don't find San Diego to be very 'military' or 'political'. It's just not that big a deal for most people's lives.

And the enire media in SD is either eminently predictable fluff of whatever flavor the channel has chosen, or else its mouthpiece for its owner. Hardly "driven toward a war agenda".

There are a few news channels that seem to be politically unbiased. I will say that K.U.S.I is NOT one of the unbiased channels. They are the Fox News of San Diego.

If Manchester had owned the Union Tribune -- I love calling it that as a big FU to him -- back when we were pushing for war with Iraq, he'd have called everyone who asked any questions communist terrorist lovers.

It has to have been a rough few months. He predicts a Romney landslide, and he was smacked hard with reality. And both mayoral candidates, Filner and DeMaio, said they would not allow public financing for a new stadium, which was one of his other big agenda items.

So he bought a money loser to try to get certain things done by using the paper as a propaganda machine and it didn't work.

I am a divorced early 30s liberal girl who is sick of freezing my #$% off in my hometown in the Pacific Northwest. I'd love to live in a sunny place but I am worried that there are lots of conservative guys in San Diego. Not sure if I would want to live in LA...can't decide between the two. Not crazy about the sprawl of LA. I need to be by water. I've also considered the Bay area but also, too cold.

I've perused match.com and find that the men down in SoCal are much more attractive and outgoing compared to the men in NW but I tend to lean left and I know SoCal leans right. I also don't want to get involved with someone from the military. I support our troops, I just find most of them to be a bit too conservative for my taste.
You are in your 30's, figure out now that it is much more important to find someone who loves and respects you and doesn't care who you voted for for president. If Mary Matalin and James "don't call me snakehead" Carville can make a relationship work, any couple can.

You do understand that to be non-political is a political stance in and of itself. It means you support the status quo. To be non-political is to be conservative, supply side, and pro military. After all, it's those establishments that want people to keep their mouths shut, anyway. To oblige them is to enable them.
