Default House rentals near the airport

Hello,

Needs some suggestions on house rentals near the airport.

My husband and I are relocating to SD with a 14 month old, a baby one the way and a dog. Schools are not a concern for us yet... Our budget is $2400 - $2700 for a 3 bedroom house.

Grandmom and Grandpop will be flying in every other weekend for visits and thus we are hoping to be in a nice neighborhood that is convenient to the airport.

Thanks!

Anything in the city of SD will be 5 minutes from the airport.

Point Loma, Mission Hills, Kensington are all good choices. In the sub 3k/mo range you will be looking at mostly 3/2 and 2/1's. Tell us more about what you are looking for.

Space is an issue - we want a house 3/2 house as we have a dog and need the garage space. Family friendly, parks, places to walk with two little babies would be nice too ie shops, farmer's market, etc.

My husband will be working in Mira Mesa so the commute is somewhat of an issue - although he can opt to travel at off peak commute times.

We have been looking at Poway, Scripps and RB. The new track housing is not my favorite (being a city girl myself with a passion for mid-century modern design). However, we will probably eventually buy there for the schools and the space if all works out for us in SD.

However, while we are still renting we thought it might be nice to be close to the airport (family coming often to help with the new baby) and possibly the ocean.

THANKS!!!

Can't get much closer to the airport than Mission Hills if you can afford it. Also consider University Heights, west of Park Boulevard. But these areas are early 20th century craftsman's. If you like the Ranchers then check out the nicer parts of greater Clairemont Mesa. I've also heard that the Bay Park part of Clairemont is nice (If anyone can confirm this for the OP, please do). It has close freeway access to the 5, and Tecolote Canyon Park, and Mission Bay Park will be nearby. I'm not sure about the rental costs there, but your price range seems reasonable.

Just a note that Poway, Scripps Ranch & RB can be up to at least 30 minutes to the airport - living in any of those areas is very different in proximity to the airport over the areas already listed above.

On another note, all 3 of those areas are currently under fire.

I am surprised no one mentioned Liberty Station in Point Loma, which is right by the airport, has a huge, beautiful parks to walk your little ones and pet, and is very family oriented. In walking distance is Trader Joe's, a brand, new huge Von's, restaurants, a small golf course, and a swanky wine bar. Also right accross the street is the San Diego Bay. It has a real village atmophere and is minutes from the beach and downtown. For the amount you are looking to spend, you can rent a 3/2 townhome with a two car garage. Homes are quite new, but they do not have a tract feel like North County. Most of the owners dislike North County tract newness and have made their homes very beautiful and custom inside and in landscaping. Pet restrictions are according to the individual landlord. Most of the people in this neighborhood own, but there are a number of rentals that are always popping up.
Good luck!
