yes, there is a fire in Fallbrook and mandatory evacuations there. Please check the local news outlets and / or emergency services for specific information.

Watching TV news here in NJ and there was mention of Fallbrook and Poway and Romona as being partly on fire in some areas.

Wishing you all safe passage in this firestorm. Please don't try to stay and protect your property if you're asked/told to evacuate. If you feel unsure follow your gut and get to safety.

I called my friend last night in Valley Center, just north of Escondido, and they are all packed. They said that the grocery store lots are filled to the brim with trailers. I imagine that the hotels are filled as well. If anyone is thinking of coming to visit they better have reservations somewhere. I can't believe this fire. I lived in Escondido through the last one, and as a result I have asthma now. People should not hang around in the smoke like we did for a month or more. Asthma is not a fun disease.

I was just thinking of that after reading the local news. Obviously, SD will never get as bad as New Orleans.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by California's Katrina, but when I think of Katrina, I think of the violence that followed.
