Did we just get back- doored? They were initially told they couldn't stick customers with fire payouts now it appears by doing a retro increase they've done it anyway?

Are you that surprised? These utility companies will continue to find ways to keep increasing the rates heading into the future.

Still, I can't complain much about utility rates here. Thank God for the gorgeous weather. My electricity/gas bill that I got today was for a whopping $115. Not bad at all!

Ditto that...our combined gas and electric bill for last month's usage was $71
Back when we lived in Arizona, I'd be paying around $200 just for the electricity alone around this time of year as temps consistently hover around the upper 90 to 100 degrees.

Exactly AZ2SD! Back when I lived in Dallas many years ago I'd get $600 a month electricity bills in the summer! My house was about the same size as now. Just totally crazy. And that was many years ago. Today it might even be over $1,000 during those months when it's over 100 degrees for 30 days in a row.

No thanks!

If in Texas or AZ, would solar power help to reduce the utility bills from those large numbers you quoted?

Well, where I lived no one used solar power panels at all. Even without an HOA you wouldn't see solar panels in most affluent neighborhoods in Texas. I'm not sure about Arizona. I'm sure maybe in Arizona they utilize it more.

In my hood where I live now very few people use solar panels. I have seen a few but it's not too common in Dallas, especially in neighborhoods like University or Highland Park.

AZ2SD, did your hood utilize solar panel much or is it like most large cities in Texas where many people just don't use them?

ER, your "solar panels in the hood" speak just cracks me up, especially with regards to the neighborhoods you are mentioning!

Ha, ha. Well, surprisingly enough there ARE a few houses here that do have solar panels. I'm not sure how they got them approved as the HOA aesthetics rules are so very rigid here in Santaluz but I ride my bike around the development and surprisingly you DO see some massive houses with solar panels. These are multi-million dollar mansions on the hills and it's good to see them being "green".

But NO, you wouldn't catch anyone in Highland Park in Dallas with solar panels.. LOL. They would be too afraid what their neighbors might think of them. But even in Plano, where I owned an investment property I don't recall many people with solar panels.

Remember the Enron scandal? Corporations getting their cut one way or another. Make it retroactive and then site an example of 500KWh. How many KWh does your home use? Probably more than that.
