I am in Buffalo NY and dying to run out of here. We are from NJ but moved to San Diego on the navy base when I was around 7. My mom unfortunately met my stepfather when I was about 11 and that is how we made our way here lol. We are looking to move away from the Northeast altogether. We orginally looking in FL because I assumed we are out of our leagues trying for CA . I am in my early 30s with a 3 year old son. My mom would also be coming with me :-) I have a background in Home Equitiy loans... Administration..credit analyzing..title and appraisal exp...collection agency compliance ...payment processing and pretty much anything to do with office work. I am looking to possibly work at Geico as a start until I can find something in one of my previous fields. Is it unrealistic to even look for a safe family neighborhood with my type of work? I have no clue what the neighborhoods are like or what the rent is like 20 something years later lol. Please let me know if I should look into San Diego again or wake myself up from dreamland! I would be selling my home in Buffalo and will have between 15k-30k in equity to be able to rent something until we found jobs and a permanent place to settle

You should at least look into getting on with a job you can transfer even if it's at a 7-11. That way you are working and it looks much better on a resume other than unemployed.

I know that would be the best thing to do but my issue is that I dont want to get a job then find out I cant live anywhere near the job. I was thinking Geico because they have an office in San Diego and some throughout CA. Plus there are not many jobs that will hire you then let you transfer within a few months. There is almost no relocation jobs in Buffalo unless its in the Medical field. I have only been unemployed for a year because of medical issues with my son and my previous jobs before that I worked for a little over 5 years. I am hoping that wont count against me but your right on the resume end.

teressa, I stoped where you said, "I assumed we were out of our leagues" referring to living out in San Diego vs Florida.

What do you mean by that exactly? When was the last time your were in San Diego?

Cost of living is what I meant by out of our leagues lol Sorry ...comparing CA to FL or Buffalo is night and day to me. I can absolutely afford FL... but CA from the research I have done it looks worriesome. I am hoping I am wrong of course but I feel like I am almost dreaming even looking into moving to CA. My mom always said we lived in an apt in an alley and she was happier broke and in CA than she ever was here. We have always joked about moving back there Last time I was there was a very long time ago. I would say 20 years. My sister was just there last year and she didnt want to leave. But she was visiting and visiting and living are 2 completely different things. I need to have some direction from people that live there as to what areas are no longer safe. Then I can at least come out for a week and work with a rental company on places I would like to check out. I am not opposed to other areas of CA at all I just figured the Geico job was there so I can start looking there.
