It depends what part of town you are in. If you live in the inland valleys (Escondido, Fallbrook), you will see more weather than you would downtown, Pt. Loma, La Jolla, etc. It's been two years since I last saw a thunderstorm and that one was in the downtown region and it moved back and forth over the city all night.

I grew up in Fallbrook, and I hardly ever saw a thunderstorm during my lifetime. Even the so-called thunderstorms were pretty much insignificant in their power. Then I moved to Oklahoma, and now Houston, Texas, and WOW! The storms out here pack a punch. The first one I heard had me nearly hiding under a bed I was so scared. Yep, if you want great thunderstorms, you need to move out here somewhere.

If you need a storm now & then go north of Santa Barbara. It only rains in the winter in LA and San Diego and then only once in a while Nov-Feb most years. I year in 10 we get little rain and 3 in 10 we get a lot. Otherwise it's maybe and hit-or-miss. Expect it to be dry and hot inland June-Oct. and dry and cooler along the coast.

San Diego has the best year-round weather in the entire country!

It's typically around 70 - 80F, and sunny practically every day from around March - November.

Occasionally we'll have slightly warmer/cooler days (90's high, 50's low), but not often.

Bright, sunny, cloudless skies are the norm. (ie. Wear plenty of sunscreen!)

December, January and February have a reasonable amount of cloudy and occasional rainy days.

However, we very rarely have storms of any type.

I've been here for ten or eleven weeks. There hasnt been a day were rain prevented me from going outside. If you want a storm, try Tampa. Perpetual blue skies here baby!

storms...north county has more "weather" than the rest of the county. But storms are rare. Once a year, maybe. We are moving to an area of the nation with more weather and four seaons. SD does not have "weather" and that is why most people love it here. After a few months, I get depressed when it does not rain.

This is a great post with great threads! I'm thinking of moving to Encinitas and not having thunderstorms will be hard to get used to.I grew up in AZ and monsoon season is the best. The smell, the noise, the wind....
