I have been looking at places in Poway, and there are a few on the edges of town (which is not very big) bordered by lots of nice vacant land. This would be fantastic to live next to, of course, but the question is, what is going to happen to this land? Does anybody know if (and when) it's going to be used for development? Because that of course would amount to many years of noise etc, not to mention spoiling the views. Anybody have any ideas, or know how to find out?

It's just like any area. If a big developer buys up hundreds or thousands of acres somewhere, they'll probably convert it to gated communities, Condos, apartments, plaza's, etc. That's how it usually works. If you don't want that to happen, you have enough money, buy up that space and keep it open.

Call up the Planning Dept in the City of Poway to speak to someone in that dept or make an appt. They will tell you what the current status is with certainty.

Where about are you looking? The east end of Scripps Poway Pkwy before heading into the 67 towards Ramona?
Are the lots smaller in size or are they are large enough to support a community? Those are questions I would be more concerned with, especially if it has to do with any potentially planned sites that have not been built on yet.

This might sound silly for a lot of cities, but Poway's local government officials will actually talk to you. They are very helpful. So I agree, give them a call.

There are plots of land in that area that are already zoned for some categories of residential and are up for sale. Poway's city boundaries are along that area.

Years ago a family who owned a plot of land on the corner of Poway Rd and 67 tried a ballot measure to get permission to build a convenience store there -- the city council had rejected their application and they tried to bypass them. The reason they got rejected is because of lack of things like water pipes. The measure failed on the ballot.

So, someone would have to put in significant infrastructure to support more than one or 2 new homes along that area.
