There was a small earthquake in LA, this brings something to my mind...

I always heard about the earthquake activity in the LA area, but I have not heard much about San Diego...

Any stories on SD earthquakes?

There are quite often small earthquakes around San Diego. Not so much right in San Diego, although there are active faults within San Diego. Anything under 3.0 is pretty much imperceptible. Some people can feel the small quakes from 3.0 to 4.0. If it's as much as 4.0 near San Diego, you'll probably perceive something. But it might seem like someone slammed a door hard.

The most recent notable earthquake that was felt in San Diego (that I can remember) is the Easter earthquake that was so bad around Mexicali/Calexico, in 2010.

If you look at where the San Andreas fault runs, it's a good 120 - 130 miles from San Diego, but only around 50 miles from LA. There are a lot of smaller fault zones closer to or right in SD, but they usually only generate small quakes. The big quake in April, 2010 was on a branch of the San Andreas and was powerful enough to really shake up San Diego, but still, it was more than 100 miles away from SD.

Oh, and if you search for pics from the April 2010 quake, there's a really cool one of some mountains in Northern Baja that got shook up so much, you can see all the dirt and dust being kicked up off the mountain.

San Diego has not experienced the "big one" like Los Angeles and San Francisco. I recall in a college class that we don't have the fault lines that experience shifting. Something to do with tectonic plates...I don't recall, I wasn't paying attention. But the Imperial Valley to include Borrego Springs and down into Mexicali and San Felipe do have them quite often. If it is big enough you will feel it here in San Diego.

The closest San Diego has come to a "big one" would probably be 1857. Facts about California Earthquakes | San Diego History Center

The biggest I ever felt was the Easter Quake in 2010. That was legit.

Otherwise, you may experience a tremblor here or there and wonder if it you have experienced an EQ.

Naturally, they are totally unpredictable in terms of size on what date/time, but nothing I dont think many folks would lose sleep over it.
Its not like looking to move into the southeast of the US knowing every single year several storms are or hurricanes are almost a certainty.
