Don't let negative people affect your decision to search for a job in this area. IB in geneal is fairly small, but there are many other areas within 10 minutes' drive with plenty of jobs. I suggest you widen your search to include Chula Vista, Otay (Mesa), and San Ysidro. They are known for a wide hispanic population, which means there are tons of jobs available. Think higher-level, especially if you are bilingual. To give you a specific example, a managers of apartment an complex in this area is bringing in $80K+, while the same position is Pacific Beach pays $55K. Seems backwards, but it's the way it is.

Good luck with your search.
