The only thing missing from that 80s era Sam Goody's building was a pair of legwarmers

Here's a rendering of the park that kettlepot mentioned -

Actually, there are five if you count Smart and Final and Grocery Outlet. Not many downtown's can claim to have that many grocery stores.

That is true, I forgot about them. Grocery Outlet replaced the old Pep Boys I used to go to around where the new East Village Bowling Alley and Tavern is now, this is a block from my old building. And Smart and Final does count as well.

My how the East Village has changed.

There is also a small grocery store on 12th and Broadway (Popular Market) on the Trolley line next to the Chinese Restaurant, both have been there FOREVER!

There was also another market downtown - Super Junior's, but according to Yelp, they're closed.

To get back on topic...for students at the two law schools ...I would highly recommend bankers Hill, Hillcrest areas....walkable or accessible by bus... Better rents and more shopping.

I went to USD law school, but it never crossed my mind to live near the school. Why not live at the beach? That's what San Diego is all about.
