I am trying to get an idea of what auto insurance costs in San Diego. I realize this varies depending on many factors, but I would like to get at least a ballpark (I mean a big ballpark).

Driver: mid-thirties
Car: compact (nothing anyone would want to steal)

State Farm tried to quote my wife and I $125 a month to insure a Prius! So I switched to Geico and now we pay $68 a month

$202/six months with Mercury. Full coverage, and I use Ives Insurance as my agent.

Judging from your user name I'm guessing you will want the cheapest possible. For minimum coverage you can expect to pay ~$60 per month for full coverage maybe $120 per month.

2 older vehicles: [accord and camry-both over 15 years old]. We pay $80/month total with Liberty Mutual. Full coverage on one, only liability on the other and low deductible. Regularly shop around, and we switch-sometimes state farm or AAA auto is cheaper for us. Geico has always been higher, for some reason. But I think we need to look again!-some of the rates listed on this thread are crazy low-lol.

It's higher of course if you have any infractions/tickets/accidents in recent years, etc.

I'm going by the poster's user name (no where to go but up) but if he really is at a low point in his life and is unemployed or low income (he has previously started a thread about seeking a job in San Diego) then he should look up the DMV's low cost auto insurance options. It is just for minimal coverage but the price is just $19 per month. That would get him covered at the lowest price possible though he'd have to get a different policy when he gets a good paying job but this will cover him until that happens.

Best of luck.

(Google $19 insurance and you'll find several insurance companies which take part in this state low income insurance plan.)

Once again I would like to express my appreciation to this wonderful board. You have all been a great help. That gives me a good idea of the price range.

Think4Yourself, I see you not only think for yourself but are thoughtful of others.

California's Low Cost Auto Insurance |

That's the state's low cost insurance program where low income people can get minimum level insurance for $19 per month. Note, you will have to be very low income to qualify but if you do then you can get the insurance from just about any company you want.

Think4Yourself, I had a look at the qualifications required. It looks like my son would not qualify as he has no driving record in the U.S.

Also, do you know how they determine income eligibility? He has had no U.S. income as he does not yet live there and has yet to find employment.

Gee, the state sure is kind to subsidize someone with less than $28,725.

Again, thank you for your help.
