I have to admit that growing up half of the people did have them in their yards and you start to take them for granted until you move away for a while and then when you come back... Well, you notice the little bits of beauty that you've been missing.

I left some small ones and keep the couple bigger ones but cut down to smaller now so the sap doesn't drip everywhere.

They sure are pretty.
30 foot Birds of Paradise? That's almost as tall as a utility pole. You can't be serious, can you?

52 years, good for you. Did you find it as expensive to move into SD now, as people say it is?

If you take real estate out of the equation, San Diego isn't that expensive. Unfortunately, the high cost of housing is a reality and makes it difficult for middle class folks to reside here.

Luckily, I was able to build up some home equity over the years, and can afford to live in a respectable neighborhood.

For those who are just starting out, or for those on a fixed income, the situation is much different.

It's the little things that you notice when returning to a place that you used to take for granted. It's good to be beck.
