We are considering a move to La Jolla from Las Vegas
Our family could afford a house in 1-1.5 with out any mortgage.
I am stay at home to 4 kids for the time being but we are both educated professionals.
Looking for a costal city in LA or SD for our family with good schools and minimal commute.
Just wondering where do the lawyers live in SD area.

Thanks.

Well, unfortunately, they're pretty much everywhere. Haha. Just kidding.
It's not so much about where lawyers live (we live everywhere. Disclosure: I'm a lawyer but don't practice law). It's more about where you will be practicing law. If you're going to be downtown, then probably best to live close to there. If you're going to be doing criminal defense or civil work out of the North County courthouse, probably best to live closer to Vista.
But reading your whole post, I'm confused. A coastal city in LA or SD with minimal commute? Where are you going to be working? Surely you're not thinking of commuting between LA and SD, are you?

surely not commuting to LA.... funny!
Just exploring options right now familiar with LA... I am from the Valley.
My husband is from Eastcoast but in Vegas 15 plus years.
Civil. defense. so not in court every day.

We are seriously considering Rancho Palos Verdes for the kids but the commute any where is terrible.
Lajolla is nice.... commute to Downtown appears ok. dont' really like Coronado for living... although commute downtown is ideal. Dont' have to work......but if we want to put our 4 kids though college....that is another cool 750-1m so I guess not working/ is not an option.
As far as where he will be working.... either Newport / Irvine Longe Beach area or Downtown SD.

Really just wondering where most actively working lawyers live.... but hey if you can recommend a good country club that's fine too

funny, but I have always speculated--with no statistics to back it up--that most lawyers who work, at least downtown, live elsewhere....La Jolla, Del Mar, Coronado, and Pt Loma would be my guess where many live, but as stated above, depends upon where you end up working (and recognize $1-1.5M won't get you that much of a house on the coast...more inland, yes; coast, no...and also depends upon your annual income).

Thanks. We have been looking at Lajolla - Murilands and 1.2 can get us about 2000 sqft. Homes are older and would be a tight fit but acceptable. Browsed 1.5- 2 range but would need a mortgage above 1.5 we have other income from Real Estate....but as a Real Estate Broker in NV and CA the benifits do not include retirement. So any other additional income from Real Estate goes to our savings. Our house hold income is approx 200K. We have no other debt so can push price up.... should keep it at 1.5 so that we don't have any financial issues in the future.

They live all over as not all that many Lawyers are very successful here. To be honest 200k a year "here" isn't that remarkable so you should fit in anywhere you want.

Strange question....do they all live in one area in Vegas? Living in a community with my co-workers would be the last thing on my mind.

I've always wondered myself how important it is to people to live around other "like" professionals. I get that there is a certain class aspect to it, but does it really matter what the guy down the street does for a living? One would think that you would want it to differ from what you do to keep things interesting.

There certainly is a variety and difference amongst professionals be it CPA, doctor, attorney, business owner, sales manager, advertising exec, engineer, investment banker/stockbroker, finance, pharmacist, biotech, brand manager, management consultant, etc, etc..,.I just wish downtown had more of these individuals to go along with people in other fields that live there....I get that you (and I) wouldn't want only engineers, only doctors, etc on my block just as I wouldn't want only food and beverage workers or only military on my block or in my building.

All my attorney friends keep it on the down low in public so it would be hard to find out what your neighbor did as a living if an attorney.
