Yeah, but many many many people in San Diego seem to have a fetish with there lawns, or homes in general looking a little too perfect at the expense of abusing there water use. I could understand if it rained here all year long, and a water shortage would never ever been an issue, but it is, and that's why I said that.

Personally making sure my house was in perfect shape, and having plants and trees all over in front of my house isn't on top of my list. I rather live in a little cool piece of crap 30's Bungalow home then to deal with some bastard HOA fees, and somebody telling me what to do, and how my house should look like. Too many new master planned homes have this, which just adds to the cost of living and makes every home look so cookie cutter and boring to look at.

I just feel like nobody should tell you how your home should look like, and what changes should be made. That's up to the owner, not you, not me, not anybody. But it's the whole drop in home value that stirs people up around here, I just don't think it's fair because one person gets pissed off because his neighbors lawn is brown, and the plants are dying. That's none of his or hers business. You don't own the property, so give it a rest! We are in a water crisis for gods sake.

Crimetracker Maps Vehicle Break-Ins In Mira Mesa

Last Updated:
08-28-08 at 6:56AM
Hundreds of Mira Mesa residents are at risk of having their cars broken into. The News 8 CrimeFighters reports on recent car break-ins, where the criminals target vehicles parked unprotected in carports.

.....

But the area has its problems. Some residents complain about the traffic, noise from MCAS Miramar, and crime.

....
The News 8 Crimetracker mapped vehicle break-ins and vehicle thefts for the entire Mira Mesa area for the last three months and found there were 49 vehicle break-ins and 26 vehicle thefts. O'Hanlon says don't make it easy for the criminals.

"Don't leave valuables in the car, especially if they're visible," he said.
Good advise but you are WAAAAAYYYYYYY off on the vehicle crime states.

In the month of January (the latest available data set) the SDPD reported only 19 vehicle thefts in Mira Mesa which as a percentage of total population and number of cars in Mira Mesa is tiny, tiny, tiny. Compare that to other neighborhoods which have double, triple, or even quadruple the problem even though they're population is smaller.

The SDPD's crime map can locate all the crimes in the entire city right down to the street block level so if you want poke around and see for yourself. Mira Mesa's crime rate is just a little below average.

San Diego Regional Crime MAPS

The most crime ridden areas are down south by the border and out in east county but even those areas are much lower then the national average. In fact this is a pretty safe county. The stats are very good. The one silver lining to the high cost of living is that most of the low income never do wells have been forced to move some where else.

We are currently in our fifth year of a regional drought and the water authorities have tripled water rates over the last year in order to get people to use less water. It hasn't worked as much as needed and in all likelihood unless we suddenly get a whole lot of really late season snow storms in the Sierras and torrents of rain down here in SoCal there will likely be water rationing soon.

The reservoirs and aquaducts we've built in the 30's through 60's have served us well over the last 5 years but since the 60's not a single new reservoir has been built even as we now have 500% more population. Yes, reservoirs are expensive but we need them and this "I won't pay taxes" attitude needs to go. We need to open our wallets and build this public infrastructure or we're going to run out of water.

Yes I agree, water is our most precious resource, and I just think too many people in San Diego waste it. I constantly see our freeways being watered, but yet Cal Trans doesn't care about conserving I guess. They care more about maintaining the "beauty" of our freeways, rather than repair cracks and pot holes on them Like if things are not green enough.

Mira Mesa is not a bad neighborhood.

The reason why Mira Mesa has a bad reputation is because it is located in the northern section of SD, near yuppie rich neighborhoods like La Jolla and Sorrento Valley, etc.

Lots of people who live in those neighborhoods think that any place with the slightest imperfection is total ghetto, because they have an extremely high-standard, yuppie view and they live in totally flawless surroundings.

My husband and I just returned from a visit to San Diego (my first). I intended check out this forum for SD pictures (the ones posted are magnificent) and came upon this threat. We visited my niece who lives in the Mira Mesa neighborhood. She mentioned no problems with crimes, car theft, gangs, etc. or poor schools. I share the concern of some of the posters regarding water use in San Diego. Many in my Portland neighborhood have replaced lawns with drought tolerant and native plants in order to conserve water (some of us hate to cut lawns). I was encouraged by the article found in your local paper encouraging residents to do the same. It appears San Diegans may even be paid to remove lawns. We have to do it for free in Portland. LOL
Clip:
The Metropolitan Water District, the main wholesaler to Southern California, is leading an effort to trim those numbers. It is crafting a $7 million program to pay customers to tear out their lawns starting later this year.

I've got the same question. People said it is not a very good area because of gangster etc. I have been living there for more than 5 years near Miramar College (many considered bad area) but never had anything bad happened and never heard of anything bad either. Is it unsafe? I don't think so. It is a very convenient area though because you can get everything you want close by. I am not sure where the negative information is coming from.

You may not be able to get out of your driveway between 4-7pm. if you live anywhere near MM. Blvd.
I believe that is true pretty much everywhere in big cities.
