That's hard to believe, maybe you just need a h**l of a lot of Terro, and pour it on them.

I had to resort to a sprayer on the outside. I had 10 terro traps and they were all full of dead ants and the ants kept coming. Old school spray usually knocks em out.

Mine weren't that bad, at least they were controllable. If any decide to return, the bottle of Terro is waiting for them.

Funny story: my hippie neighbor asked for help in getting rid of ants at the beginning of summer. After a few suggestions she pointed out that most of our solutions would get carried back to the colony and kill all of the ants, and she wasn't sure if she was "comfortable" doing that, she just wanted to get rid of the ones in her house but not "unnecessarily" kill ALL of them

By the end of the summer she said "I don't care, I just want those f***ing ants gone. KILL THEM ALL! How do I destroy the colony again!?"

Do pest control companies eliminate ant problems or are they a waste of money?

When I first moved into my condo, we had a lot of ants (it was new construction). The pest control companies came out once a month and sprayed outside. They offered to spray inside, but I didn't want toxic stuff inside. That's when they told me about wiping away ant trails with either bleach or vinegar.

They did that for a couple of years. So yes, they eventually work. But it may take repeated visits to control the problem.

Pest control companies mostly kill ants in and around the house, but not necessarily the colony (i.e., the source) because that would run them out of business. So, they'll create a poisonous perimeter around your house that wears off after a matter of time which then requires you to pay them again to spray the perimeter again. Other pests (not ants) are a different story since there's usually not an underground colony to destroy, so pest control companies are a better solution for that.
