Best wishes to everyone planning a return to San Diego in 2008! We're coming back, too.
We left San Diego in May 2006 and discovered that the grass was definitely not greener here in Idaho - more like a dull brown
There's no place like home.

We just moved from Escondido CA to Concord NC, I am extremely homesick. I do not know how to get over it, my husband was making $60,000 a year and we were living in a mobile home and we could not get ahead. Any advice on how to ease my homesickness?

I love San Diego, lived there for 4 years before coming back to Houston.

But I don't miss San Diego. I don't have good feelings about California's future, for whatever reason. My wife and I pondered some opportunities to go back to SoCal...but we said, "Nah." Houston's a very good place to be for now.

I wish I would have put more thought into moving back to SD. It's definately not for the middle class. We can't make it here anymore on our salaries (2 working, one of us two jobs and a pension). I came back home with high hopes of getting my first teaching job. Worked my butt off to get even another certification only required in states with high hispanic students (no offense to anyone, just more work). Only to receive my extra certification AFTER all these educational budget cuts .

Off to another state that already hired me to teach in the fall for a smaller salary BUT way cheaper cost of living.

I will miss San Diego because it is home and has been for me for over 30 years but it's not affordable anymore.

Finally some people on this thread who see the reality of whats happening here in SD and Socal. "Sustainability is right", you have to have more than weather and beaches to keep families around.

Default Bummer

Well, I've lived in San Diego AND Seattle. I'd have to say that your experience sounds unique. I think most people from the northwest are friendlier and more down to earth than the people in So Cal. I'm originally from LA, so I guess I compare it to there, too.

I'm planning a move to Boston in October because I'm sick of the job market here in SD and the expenses. What I get paid in SD to do, pays double on the east coast. I think it has to do with a large number of college grads here in SD (with 5 universities) staying in town after graduation (like I did). At least in Boston, I've heard most of the grads move away after school.

It's really too bad you didn't like Seattle (I hope it's not just based on your weirdo neighbor and the food sucking)...it's much cheaper to live there.
