Default I wish I could move back to SD

I was raised in Encinitas (north county) area and pretty much watched home prices go up so high that I couldn't afford to buy a house or live my life anymore without 6 roommates and a boat load of debt just to live comfortably. Not to mention the tons of people that moved there and became Rude, Self Righteous yuppies. and the TRAFFIC!
So I decided to move to this little town in Oregon (which is pretty) but boring low paying jobs, gloomy, dark cold winters and hillbillys that drive Ford Trucks from the year 1980. I wish I could move back...

I'm really sorry that you're finding your new place very "unlike" where you're from, but maybe people will learn from your experience. One seems to trade off one set of problems for another set. I guess we need to find the "problems" (for a lack of a better word - LOL) that we can live with. I wish you a good 2008 - hoping that you are able to move back to where you are happy.

Don't feel bad. Life in CA. is good but it has flaws too. Very hard to raise a family here. You may not be able to afford Encinitas but there are other areas of SD. that are more affordable. Probably better for a family too. You should put a plan in place to get moved back home. Even if you buy or rent a place in La Mesa or El Cajon. You are still only 15-20 mins. from the beach.

I am still trying to get used to where I live but what I REALLY miss more then anything else is a burrito from Los Panchos...YUM!
I am trying to figure out a way for them to fedex me a Burrito every once in a while.

The only things SD can boast nowadays is nice weather, "beautiful" people, hedonistic excess and good mexican food.....I gotta get out of here.

And by the way. Areas like El Cajon and Lakeside are just a LITTLE cheaper than most of SD. The cheapest 1 bedrooms out here (that aren't totally falling apart and gang ridden) are around 800-900. Which is only a saving of a couple hundred per month. And going to SD al the time you pat the difference in gas anyway.

It is misleading to tell someone that they will save $ in East County, it's just not true right now. SD is no city for a working class person. No parts of SD offer a realistic escape from the financial prison.

Consider Phoenix too. More affordable. Hot summers but SD. and California are only a 5-6 hrs. drive. Several of my friends have split CA. for AZ. and seem to be liking it. Phoenix can hold their own in the burrito category too.

Encinitas is beautiful...no wonder you want to move back...but the reality is that SD it very expensive to live...no matter where in our finest city.

I say move somewhere you can afford a nice quality of life...and with all the money you save...take long vacations on the beach in SD. The sunshine tax is killing us...and we are on our way out of here this year.

I admit that I will miss good mexican food...but I will enjoy it when I am back here visiting! (Just like my friends who moved to Seattle and miss In-N-Out do)

um yeah...
I was just reading my post from December....When I posted it was cold and dark in Oregon. I had the winter blues and I was missing my family and friends!!!
I do not wish I could move back to San Diego. I actually want to move back to a different island in Hawaii.
I actually get the oppurtunity to visit SD almost 2 times a month and I spend most of my time there with family and friends eating real mexican food and staying as far away as possible from I5, traffic, all the yuppies, shopping centers and all the people that think they are the coolest person there. I still love the local beaches though even if there are boatloads of people all over them. It's just way too crowded there now compared to the quiet I remember when I was younger. The construction started one day and never stopped. I wanted to buy a house there at first, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $599,999 that I didn't have in the first place to buy a house that I know didn't take that much to build. Just to live in track neighborhood 10 feet away from my neighbor and have specific rules of wha tI can and can't have planted in my front yard.
I will always love San Diego but it's just not what I remember it to be anymore.

Gemfem,
Oregon is a fabulous place with REAL people. Yes they may be a little redneck or drive older cars, but I think it is so nice to be there or other places that are not so superficial and full of silicone. SD has gotten to be a cramped mess. PB and MB are crowded with slimy people for the most part, and the cost of living is so high in the nice parts of the county its not worth it. The weather is the only great aspect, but frankly other places with seasons and weather systems are great too. Enjoy where you are and keep SD as a place you visit occasionally and are glad you don't live there anymore.

As I always say, wherever you go, you have to take yourself with you....

in other words it's what's inside that matters most... not what's outside..there is no shangra la location. Be happy where you are
