We're moving to SD from the Chicago area and have had Comcast internet/cable and AT&T landline forever (plus cell phones). We like having a true landline because it will operate even if the internet is down, and because we can put phones all over the house and not have to carry the cells everywhere we go. And for easy faxing, although we are scanning to PDF more and more. Some places still want faxes in my husband's business.

It is good to hear the service is reliable because we'll have two computers and maybe a wifi device or two going most of the time. We've been happy with our 25Mbps but looks like we'll have a choice of 5 or 50, so guess we'll go with 50.
Just as a FYI...be prepared to have a back up plan. Not every service is available in every area. For example, I can not get Cox/Comcast or even Verizon, where I am.

The current owners have Cox service so should be OK for us.

Thanks very much, very interesting. We'll have to compare it to AT&T landline service. Maybe I can learn what the current owners use. Our realtor grew up with the husband so I'm sure she can find out such stuff.

If I was to switch to the cheaper "Cox Internet Essential" Plan (5 Mbps, 100GB data cap) I would be paying $48/mo as opposed to the $62/mo I'd be paying if I stuck with the plan I'm on now.

I understand with typical internet browsing the speed difference would not be noticeable between the two plans. What I'm concerned about is the data caps. I generally use over 300GB/mo, will Cox take action to interrupt my service if I was to switch to the plan with the 100GB cap and consistently go over it that much? Currently they send me emails every once and awhile but nothing ever comes of it.

Also, regarding getting the bill reduced - when I had Comcast years ago I would simply call and threaten to cancel every six months claiming another company offered a lower rate and they were able to match the lower rate, does Cox operate the same way?
LMAO reduce...bill....LMAO
