thank you, yes 2,500.00 per month, I will look at La Costa, kinda set on Encinitas, because it is close to the beaches and i want that as well as safe area....and love the trow back lifestyle. Work is not a problem I can work anywhere in the technology field I am in, I get to work from home/ remote and always have with various IT companies, so that wont change.
Also very important is the HS and in Encinitas the HS are rated high, coming from MA that is important as well as a HS that is not so traditional, like Canyon Crest Academy for my son, checked it out and loved it !!
How much heat do you use and costs that I should be aware of added to rental, again so very helpful

Canyon Crest is not as "alternative" as it used to be. Sports have definitely become an increasing focus. I understand they still stress tech and the arts but it seems like it's a lot more like Torrey Pines than it used to be. We are after all dealing with the same Carmel Valley demographics for the most part...Also, I could have sworn my neighbor told me no more lottery to get in and they opened the floodgates and admitted a massive freshman class this year and that classes are now overcrowded even more. I would look into this. Also, a commute from La Costa in the a.m. to CCA is probably about 25 minutes. The bigger issue could be the p.m. commute, especially with after school activities. The 5 north can be pretty rough going.

I would take a look at San Dieguito Academy for a more alternative experience. Just make sure your kid gets in, otherwise you are looking at La Costa Canyon and that sounds like the opposite of what you want.

You may want to call the San Dieguito High School District. Canyon Crest and San Dieguito Academy are lottery; if you don't get in, you go to La Costa Canyon if you live in Encinitas/South Carlsbad. However, before this school year started parents near SDA whose kids didn't get in there complained to the district because they wanted their kids in the "neighborhood" school they lived closest to. As a result they let in the kids who were on the waiting list for the lottery schools, like DaCounselor mentioned, and have now formed a committee to determine if the enrollment process should be changed. So what it is now may be different down the road. (And FYI, there's only a lottery if the number of kids applying exceeds available seats, so it may not even be an issue.) If you do look into Carlsbad make sure you're looking for places in the San Dieguito district zone, as a lot of the city feeds into Carlsbad Unified. Good luck!

very helpful thxs. I am hopeful Encinitas is the place for us, beach town more affordable then Del Mar and Lajolla, and what is with that awful smell in Lajolla ?? Encinitas I hope will have rental townhouses or houses there, it is the same cost of housing here in Hamilton, MA so that isn't a problem, just concerned regarding inventory....and then my son almost 15 making friends easily and being able to surf and fish etc., also myself making friends and adjusting to west coast from being a born and raised Bostonian !! Can anyone comment on the train that goes thru Del Mar ? Encinitas where does to go, prob SD but what is it's route ? Thxs again so very much !
