Smile Carmel Mtn Ranch

We plan to buy our home in RB. Any idea about this community? Is it nice? It seems a little old community.

Thanks for your advice!

Carmel Mtn. ranch is a very nice family friendly suburban area. There are good schools (part of Poway school district) and nice shopping around. There is also a library and a rec center. It is close to the 15 and 56. It's not really that old and you can find a nice mix of home sizes, condos and apartments.

RB = Rancho Bernardo. Not the same as Carmel Mountain Ranch, though they're very close to each other.

CMR is fairly new (10-15 years). RB is much older. RB has a high proportion of well-off retired folks. CMR seems to be mostly families.

Thanks

Scripps Ranch is also a nice area. It is a little more inland so it gets a little hotter in the summer. I don't think it is part of the Poway school system but I haven't heard bad things about the schools there and I know it is a popular area for families. Depending on where you will be working it may be a good choice. In other posts I have recommended 4S ranch for families, but the homes are all newer and so you have the added cost of "mello roos" on your property taxes. It is a planned community with great schools, shopping, parks, etc. just 1 exit north of Carmel Mountain Ranch on 15.

Scripps Ranch is closer to the city and closer to both 56 and 52 which is a good thing. The schools are part of SDUSD but are very good, especially the high school.

We used to live in the Poway/RB/CMR area and though it was very nice, beautiful neighborhoods and good schools, I discovered that it is terribly impacted population wise.

IMO, there are not enough retailers for the amount of population, so expect crowded parking lots (the CMR Ralph's/Trader Joes parking lot especially). I found that Target sells out of popular sale items Sunday and you have to get there at the crack of dawn...I used to just go to Escondido and find exactly what I needed.

Costco is crazy...there is one in Poway now...and though it is up in the business park, it is worth the drive to avoid the madhouse of the CMR Costco.

We have relocated to Clairmont and it is such a breath of fresh air to me...I love the convenience of the location as well as the wide selections of retailers, restaurants, grocery stores, etc...never have to fight for a parking spot or circle the lot and rarely have a line at ANY store I shop in...so refreshing and a great stress reducer. I also love the established neighborhoods and families living in this area.

Scripps Ranch is very nice in my opinion. The SR HS is very good, ranked silver which means it's in the top 200 out of 18000 in America.

The community is anywhere from 0-30 years old. Lots of trees and easy to get in and out of the community. Also, it's right next to Mira Mesa which has whole bunch of stores.

Thanks very much for your information

Today we visited SR which has lots of trees! Just like a forest!

All kids in SR can attend SRHS? (Maybe we only can afford a condo)
