Hi everyone! I'm going on a road trip up the west coast this spring; first stop is in San Diego. Where would you stay and do if you had 36 hours in your city? In general, I'm not a touristy person and am more interested in the city's local side. That said, I'm looking forward to spending some time in Balboa Park. It looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much!

Thanks guys! I'm currently looking at AirBnb; is there a particular neighborhood I should stay in? This place is a front runner: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/585469 How's that for location?

As someone who lived in the south (Georgia) for 8 years before moving out here the bbq at Phil's is good, but kind of standard by southern standards. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good, and you can get sweet tea(!) and it's worth a stop though the lines can get long.

Coops is West Texas BBQ. Slow smoked more dry with wet sauce. Local owner/cook. Real-deal mom-n-pop experience. Highly recommend. In Lemon Grove. South BBQ is different entity I presume. Who the hell want to go to West TX. Collision of perfect worlds: West TX fare in sunny SD.

Yes to tacos. Try Bull Taco in Encinitas/Cardiff - the view is the best though the tacos can be hit-n-miss (really good to what happened today). I'm partial to the grilled fish tacos at EatMexicanFood local chain, but haters gonna hate here. Try Poppa's Fresh Fish for tacos in BarioLogan/Logan Heights. Another mom-n-pop with a true American patriotic hero owner/cook/activist/nice guy.
