Would appreciate advice finding a safe apartment/condo to rent for Son in law who is in the navy and daughter who is a nurse. They are newly weds ..son in law has only lived on base a short time and has been deployed for several months. We will be moving our daughter from Chicago to join him in June. They are looking to spend 2000 a month or less and would like to be close to his work and also near a great hospital for her to seek employment.Thank you !

The largest, newest, apartment/condominium communities are in Mission Valley. Since these were built with full scale on sight management in mind, I think the condition of the complexes will be good. It's not my ideal living situation because it is too automobile oriented and sterile, but these might be the best choices for people new to the area.

There are hospitals, Sharp and Rady's Childrens, just up the 805 at the intersecton of the 805 and 163. The other largest conglomeration of hospitals is in Hillcrest with UCSD (Hillcrest) and Mercy located right by each other. The commute to Hillcrest should probably be ok. There are several different routes, Friars Road, I-8, or Texas-ECB-Washington, maybe even Camino del Rio South to Bachman Place. Just avoid the Friars/163 on ramps.

While Mission Valley isn't close to the Navy base, it isn't impossibly far either. The 805 South to the 15 West would bring him directly to the base. The other option, depending on his work schedule, and proximity, is to take the Green Line trolley out of Mission Valley to Downtown, and then switch to the Blue Line to the base. The trolley is actually a rather pleasant way to commute.

There is more than one Navy base. Which base is he assigned to? That will make a difference on where may want to live. Don't forget about www.lincolnmilitaryhousing.com, either.

Yep, to the above. Find out which base first. I'd also have SIL check into new unit and find out what they have planned for him before signing anything....

And I'd recommend holding out for military housing too.
