Default Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside...

Hi, I'm moving to the NC area and I'd like to go to the Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside area. I'd like to go someplace that is fun for a young 24 year old artist/musician, who likes to surf. I'd like the area to be reletively safe, but I also don't really want to live in a boring suburb with sub-divisions & nothing to do. Any thoughts?

Oceanside is a bit dicey. Encinitas and Carlsbad near the ocean have a bit of a vibe, but it is largely a suburban area for families.

Encinitas is the most lively of the three, but it's not that lively and a bit of an older scene. Move more south (Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach) and there's more action.

encinitas and carlsbad are wealthy areas. oceanside has it's nice areas, but has a big gang problem. gang violence. if you're looking for a safe place, but with action, pacific beach is the spot.

True, but you probably have a better chance getting the beatdown from a drunken meathead in PB than a gangbanger in O'side
