Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside...
Hi, I'm moving to the NC area and I'd like to go to the Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside area. I'd like to go someplace that is fun for a young 24 year old artist/musician, who likes to surf. I'd like the area to be reletively safe, but I also don't really want to live in a boring suburb with sub-divisions & nothing to do. Any thoughts?  |

Oceanside is a bit dicey. Encinitas and Carlsbad near the ocean have a bit of a vibe, but it is largely a suburban area for families.

Encinitas is the most lively of the three, but it's not that lively and a bit of an older scene. Move more south (Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach) and there's more action. |

encinitas and carlsbad are wealthy areas. oceanside has it's nice areas, but has a big gang problem. gang violence. if you're looking for a safe place, but with action, pacific beach is the spot. |
