I live in Santee, CA right now and have previously lived in Downtown San Diego. I miss downtown and will probably move back. But I couldn't pass up a really good deal on my first home, so I moved out here (17 min east of Downtown). I travel a lot and really enjoy visiting Scottsdale (Arizona). It is so clean and is a very nice city (except the extreme heat half of the year). Does anyone know any really clean/classy looking cities in San Diego that have a similar 'new' and clean/organized feel to it like North Scottsdale and Old Town Scottsdale? I really like how everything is new looking and clean and I seem to like the desert look - but could Never deal with the extreme heat ha. Thanks for any tips with specific cities or areas within SD County.

Don't know anything about Scottsdale, but i used to live near Del Mar, i like north county a lot. I lived in Carlsbad also, that's a place that's very 'clean looking' loved my time there.

Lol Santee > scottsdale
mission valley > scottsdale
90% of SD > Scottsdale

Scottsdale is awesome for Phoenix area but compared to SD it's pretty blah Imo. Scottsdale does feel more like a SoCal city to me than other areas of town out here. But I'm really having a tough time seeing the appeal over Santee. Closest I can think to N. Scottsdale would have to be newer North county. Rancho Santa Fe has the ridiculously huge high end houses you'll find in north Scottsdale and Pv.

That being said most of SD is older. Phoenix metro went through a population explosion more recently so there will be more new construction. Hell Phx metro is about a million more people than SD.

The La Costa and Aviara areas of Carlsbad seem to fit the bill.

Let me chime in one more time.. what areas that resemble the clean/new look of Paradise Valley/Scottsdale, but have a lively 20's and 30's year old crowd and good nightlife/outdoor activities...

Is this a joke ? SD isn't Scottsdale and finding some newer, clean and expensive place where 20 year olds go to party just sounds ridiculous. If you hang out in Del Mar during the summer, places like Jimmy O's have 20 and 30 year olds partying. And Del mar is pretty damn clean and if you drive a couple miles over near Del Mar Heights rd/El Camino Real area and/or Carmel Valley, it's all relatively new or brand new as in not even finished yet in some spots. But Carmel valley is not exactly 20 year old party goers.
