Shelltown is a neighborhood located within Southeast San Diego, bordered by National City on the south, Interstate 5 and Barrio Logan on the west, 43rd Avenue (a continuation of Highland Avenue) on the east, and Gamma Court and the neighborhood of Southcrest on the north.

I live directly across the street from the end of Naval Base San Diego, on the street behind Main Street, right before the Chevron Station and I-5. I can walk to National City in about five minutes.

That's why I through Logan Heights out there. That's the reputation that I've always heard. I haven't really hung around there though so I'm not going to try to dispute an area local. I've driven through Barrio Logan and Logan Heights many times in the past but didn't "feel" like some place I wanted to stop in. Been at least 3 years since I've passed through that part of town, hell the south bay at all.

I lived in City Heights with no problems, and have no problems here. The only actual problems that I've had were my next door neighbor partying all night, and I put a stop to that right away, and she moved out.

The other problem was one of 13 year old identical twin girls knocking on my door and running away, plus she and her sister were keeping me up at night with their giggling laughing outside my window. After she called me some choice names, I told her that the next time I was kept up at night, she could tell the same names to SDPD, and they would take care of her.

It's now very quiet here at night, and I'm waiting to see what happens when school is out in June. If she thinks that I'm joking, she'll find out otherwise.

Downtown Ramona off of Main Street. There are some trashy places there.

A friend says that Bario Logan is getting much better than it was, with new construction.

I disagree "Ramona bad" as anywhere near as bad as rough urban areas. I would feel fine anywhere in Ramona. Also the schools aren't the worst in SD. There's a really good Montessori school by RHS.

Gems from the article:

The median annual income rose 30 percent in that same period, to $26,761 (by 2010).

Quoting a Bario Logan resident who laments: “Barrio Logan is gentrifying very quickly,” she said. “That saddens me.”

Right... because it is an absolute tragedy when a place improves.

Ya need a good hood where even the dog house has bars on the windows Romana? I wouldn't hesitate to walk one end to the other after dark.
