Hello,
I will be moving to San Diego with my girlfriend for six months this summer to study.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the approximate cost for food would be in San Diego a month?

Would $600 a month be realistic?

Thanks in advance.

For two people? Absolutely, unless you are including dining out within this budget. Then a lot depends on where and what you are eating. If eating only at home, a person can eat for only $200 per month, but that does take attention to detail, and choosing foods which cost less.

$600/mon for food is plenty for 2 people if you make most of your meals and eat at home. Invest in a $60 crock pot and you can slash your food bill quite a bit.

You got wrong ideal kid about San Diego. Housing is expensive here, food is somewhat cheap. 600 would be more than enough for 2 people

Thanks a lot for the information.
Yes I noticed that housing is expensive in San Diego.
I'm currently looking for a place but its hard to find.

I'm happy that food is atleast "cheap" !

The supermarkets are one of the most amazing things I have experienced in SD. Aisles and aisles of affordable food that would cost an arm and a leg in NYC. So much so that I have taken to eating out a lot because the choices in the supermarket are too overwhelming

If you like junk food your options are even greater.

You won't starve thats for sure.

Yes, use a crockpot, and a blender. Freezer bags are great as well. Don't forget coupons, and store brands. This way you can use the extra money you save from your food budget toward other things like taking the cost of rent down. Buy lot's of ramen, add a boiled egg and some veggies and you can live with a food budget of 100 a month.
