You are absolutely correct! After several conversations with real estate and relocation brokers in your area, I was like whoa! I have several trips up and coming in a few other areas of interest (Midwest/East coast) and I should have a clear reference on what may be best for me. Thanks for the comment.

west coast - doesn't suck (oakland exempted)

Seems to be for sure, less overall racism on the West Coast and more less "boundaries" for mixing in any kind of relationship. I'm black and most other blacks that have lived on both coasts have told me the same thing.

Have you been to NYC? I live on the East Coast, and I feel like I am gonna have a conniption when I run into those rude dirtbags from the city. Upstate is a MUCH more calm place of New York than downstate. Even Long Island is bad. Imagine kids that have beaches like California's, but act like totally jerks.

Wow, the question is simply too broad. The West coast includes the laid back granola area of Portland, the intellectual snobby granola area of Seattle, the liberal but very stressful and status oriented SF (similar to NYC or Boston in this way), the very laid back but expensive central coast of Califronia, LA which contains just about everything good and bad, OC which is conservative and affluent, and San Diego which is laid back but arguably anti-intellectual. The East coast ranges from Maine, to the liberal/status/stressful Boston/NYC/D.C. (which are great places, but definitely stressful), to the southern coast which ranges from country club resort, old school southern gentlemen, and redneck. Too broad to generalize. But I will say this- West coast equals far more mountains, better outdoor activities, MUCH lower humidity, better weather, fewer bugs, all of which makes the West Coast WAY better in my opinion. It's just a far prettier part of the country.

I dunno about that. Better outdoor activities? A lot of stuff that is done on the West Coast can be done on the East Coast. In New York State alone we can do all of that stuff. But I do want to move out to California. I love Western New York, but until they can fix this state up and stop catering to those who live in NYC I will stay far away from there.

I live on the PA/MD border right now so I am not in an East Coast big city lifestyle like NY or Philly- more like smaller city lifestyle. I grew up in a similar size city in San Diego. So, to compare. I hate it here
The people don't seem to have a zest for life that I am used to. It's like they are all depressed. They don't care what they look like, they don't smile when they check you out at the grocery store, at restaurants you are lucky to get more than your food and drink- forget about refills or friendly barter. Everyone is rather serious I guess you'd say.
On the west coast I am used to more joking around and people taking day to day life a bit less serious. I used to think that people in California were too into their looks but now that I live where the standard dress code for people in their 30's is jeans, athletic shoes and oversized t-shirts or sweatshirts (not in the cute way- just basic regular old clothes) I long for a little superficial concern over appearance lol. It may be mean to say but the women here are so practical they are mannish...
I also miss Mexico but that is another story

I live in Newark NJ and I can totally agree with the lack of dress code practice and women being so laid back that they appear mannish. I have been accused of being arrogant and stuck up because I won't leave my house (going anywear) without my face, hair, nails, ironed clothes and cleaned/polish footwear. Maybe I am an East Coast resident with a West Coast personality. LOL

Oh of course there are many pretty women who do care lol- it's just outweighed by the ones who don't In CA I was always "underdone" but here people always tell me I am "dressed Up" because I wear clothes that fit lol.
