Some out-of-town family members are coming for a visit during the 4th of July weekend. We would like to have a picnic on Sunday, July 5. Can anyone recommend a quiet, pleasant place in either San Diego or Chula Vista (where I live)?

There is a very secluded park at the end of Wueste Raod on the cusp of Otay lake and dam. It is called Otay Lakes County Park. There is a 3 dollar charge to park so it is not really busy. it is kept in nice shape with garden and plenty of walking trails. Nice picnic areas and grassy areas.

Otay Lakes County Park

Check out the pics on google images. It is very nice, quiet, secluded yet close to town. Take Telegraph Canyon Road eastbound until it turn into Otay Lakes Road then turn right on Wueste right before the lake.

Kate Sessions Park is our regular picnic spot. Great views.

For something closer to Chula Vista, Bayside Park is right on the Bay, Heritage Park in Otay Ranch has a pond with ducks and is fairly large.

If it is a small group, your food is prepared beforehand with no grilling involved, Point Loma Lighthouse is pretty awesome. It's not really set up as a picnic spot so it only works for smaller groups, but the weather will be the most temperate in the county.

It's a national park, but they charge by the car not the person so the cost is minimal.

Coronado Island park is another idea. Or J street pier.
