I know that weather is commonly discussed on here, and I apologize for any rehashing of the topic. With that said, I'm visiting Carlsbad right now in search of possibly moving here, and I love the cloudy June gloom effect! I'm guessing that cloudy days aren't this common after these months end. Am I wrong about this? Are most mornings cloudy all year round until noon or so?

Also, if I were to live 5 or 6 miles inland, perhaps in the Ivey Ranch area of Oceanside, will it get hot in the summers, or will I still get most of the ocean cooling effect?

I might sign a lease here soon, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Within 2 miles or so from the coast I think it's unusual to wake up to sunshine. That being said, this time of the year the marine layer burns off early and by 9 or 10 it's sunny along the coast. This summer it seems like the June gloom is perpetual and lasting longer than normal. I don't think this will be the case in a few weeks.

5-6 miles isn't too far inland. It may get 5 degrees warmer on average during the summer but nothing too crazy. You will still get ocean breezes and it will be more common for the marine layer to burn off a little earlier

Southern California gets coastal fog that remains much longer by the coast. We have been having far more than usual along the coast, and for much later in the year. As one goes inland, it burns quickly and so a location 5 miles from the beach can reach 7 or 8 degrees higher than by the coast. Sometimes the temperature difference can be as little as one degree and other times, it can be as discussed above.

This has been a cold summer. We "froze" watching fireworks last night.
