I have not read the article and kudos to anyone who can sustain a great quality of life in SD. It is my experience that our incomes keep chasing the cost of living to stay afloat in SD and my husband and I make a combined income of over $100k a year. We are moving out of SD to an area of the country that we will earn 11% less, but the cost of living is 30% less...so we come out ahead. We also will benefit with more open space, green surroundings, four moderate seasons and lots of beautiful uncrowded lakes and warm sincere people.

Good luck with your moves and life in SD.

Where are you moving to? I make well over $100K myself in San Diego. I can feel the pressure economically. So I end up in Austin with a similar pay cut. When I first moved here in Austin, I had the similar feeling that you have, more open space, green surronndings, especially much easier to get around without worrying traffic jams and parking space. Good luck with your move!

Don't you just love useless lists like this? It helps us to cope with the ridiculous home prices we have to live with

Another trivial list....

Check out the Harris Poll results from the last 10 years when asked "What US city you would most like to live in or near, excluding your own?" It looks like others OUTSIDE of San Diego think pretty highly of us, as well

Harris Interactive | The Harris Poll - The Coasts Are Tops as California and New York City Are Most Popular Places People Would Choose to Live

I've lived in SD for 15 yrs. I really love it here. The cost of living is hard at times but we somehow make it.
