Hi! I have posted here occasionally when my family was considering home ownership. I have a totally different issue now that has changed my perspective on where to settle down - my child was diagnosed with autism.

Any thoughts on good school districts that accommodate students with disabilities? I know Poway is known for good schools in general but the criteria for "good school" has changed and I can't find much information on how ieps are followed in schools around here.

Not an easy question to answer, my wife is a veteran Spec Ed teacher and works in SDUSD, it all comes down to the teacher, the school and the program. You have to do a lot of leg work to find something that works for you. SDUSD has more resources and more autistic students than the smaller districts, many of which can't accomodate the needs of the kids or who's parents are wealthy and go private instead.

You may have already done a search and seen these threads, but just in case you haven't, here are some recent discussions on schools/districts for children with autism in SD that you may find helpful:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-d...n-diego-w.html

If you do an advanced search, limiting it to San Diego, you'll find a number of other discussions from the past two years that will also be useful.

If she doesn't chime in here, send a personal message to a poster named Rainbowhope, who has a child with autism and recently moved to San Diego. Although she is homeschooling, she is tapped into the Autism Parent community here and she would be a good person for you to talk to about resources here.
