Hello All,

I am considering moving to SD when I graduate from college and I plan on getting a job in the service industry, (server or bartender). My question is, with the cost of living being so high in SD, could I expect higher tips as well? I would love to live in SD but I am concerned I wouldn't make enough on tips (working at a mid-upscale rest or bar) to be able to afford it. My average monthly bills, apt, car, ins, food, and misc are totaling out to be about $2200-$2500 per month. So In order for me to move to SD I would need to make at least $3000 per month serving or bartending. For those of you in the service industry, I currently work in an mid-upscale steak house and would look for similar employment there. Could I reasonable expect to earn about $1000 per week working 5-6 days. Also I know the min wage is higher in CA, how does that effect your monthly income? Does it all go to taxes or do you actually get a paycheck? Thanks for the help!
