15 minutes is not a far, nor strenuous walk for a college student. There is literally only one cul-de-sac between the campus and the ocean and the incline is no bad (from years of experience). Not to mention that UC San Diego is a major surfing school. Many students own boards and they are an one of the largest surfing schools in the country. Plus, students get a free bus down to the beach.

UCSD is pretty dang close to the ocean. San Diego is renowned as a beach city, yet 99% of San Diegans do not live nearly as close to the ocean as UCSD is. It's all relative and for practical purposes, UCSD is more or less at the beach.

In fact, it has somewhat of an isolated feel. It is a massive campus with much more of a serious academic vibe than a beach vibe.
UCSD is a very smart school w/ hardworking students. It might not be party town Santa Barbara, but UCSD students are extremely active.

It's very international, to the point where you see more Asian students than any other demographic.
My goodness. The large (very large) majority of UCSD students are US citizens from California. I find it incredibly offensive that the largest demographic (Asian-Americans) are considered "international" simply because they don't mirror the overall demographics and ancestries of the US.

Intentional or not, this post is beyond offensive. The Asian population would be largest regardless of their citizenship. As someone who attended UCSD, I assure you that these "internationals" are just as much American/ "westernized" as you.

Consider it the region's strongest and most esteemed educational institution, but don't expect anything at all life UCSB.
Thank God it's not like UCSB. Education is more important than trashiness.

SDSU is the bro ham fest you are looking for, if you are trying to get into college with a 2.5 gpa and a mediocre SAT score.

Yeah maybe from the Muir Dorms and that's it but either way that walk is not easy, especially on the way back. The only people who do it are surfers or people looking to get drunk at a bonfire in my experience. Otherwise you drive down to LJ Shores.

Four out of the six colleges are along North Torrey Pines Rd, as are a good number of the transfer dorms. These are all within a 15-20 minute walk. Many board/bike down to the beach.
