I know this is a tough one to answer, but I see when you first relocate it appears to get the car registered in CA can be costly. Using the DMV calculator for one car it was nearly $300, not sure if I'm doing it right but what can one expect to pay annual once a resident for a car with a value of $10 to $15K? For me in Fort Lauderdale it's around $100 or so a year, but they do things differently here, appears CA has different fee schedules and is based on the car value.

DMV registration doesn't go by the area that you live in, it's based on your vehicle. And yes, the first time can be very costly. Your vehicle will have to pass smog before you can register it. You'll have smog fees, transfer fees, registration fees, and insurance fees.

First initial Registration was over $300.00 plus smog.

Since then I've paid around $110. In the other state that I once registered a car, Ohio, it was like $30.

If you don't haul heavy just get the 250. The 350 will loosen your fillings. But yes, I like it a lot. There is a guy selling a cherry 2002 on bloody decks for a steal. Best motor ever put in a diesel. Oh, and it's white too

That's not too bad, after initial registration. I saw when I was out there they brought back the old black and yellow plates, do those cost more like here specialty plates are more expensive but the money goes to the fund.

I don't think you can buy the black and yellow plates.
