I've got a degree in bio. You probably want to snoop around the job front before committing to here. I ended up going back to school and wound up in an IT shop because I couldn't find anything in my field. Well, that paid decent.

Depending how strongly you feel about marine biology, the marine biologists in my family (for both studying and working) were based in Florida. You might want to consider that, as well.

As I read more and more about San Diego I am seeing that that might not be the best place to go to work in marine biology. I will most likely get a college degree whether it be the one I am working on now or go into marine biology like I want to, which I will probably do. Right now I have 2 other people that will live with me in san diego but I might choose another city to live in cali. I will do more research, this is a long term plan though.

I don't think you need to worry about majoring in marine biology until you are done with community college and transfer to a state college or university. You might also want to check into job openings for marine biologists, I knew a young lady who had a degree in Marine Biology and went to work in Marine World in Vallejo and the pay was just awful, it was about the same as you would expect the pay would be for someone with a high school diploma. She went back to school got a degree in physical therapy and is doing very, very well.

Well, if you're planning to study marine biology, you could do a lot worse than studying at the world renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. It's considered one of the top marine biology/oceanography centers in the world.

Some other colleges/universities in California programs and/or courses related to marine biology include University of San Diego, San Diego State, Pepperdine University, Humboldt State, Sonoma State, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Berkeley. There are others in California as well as Hawaii, Florida, Washington, Oregon, Texas....and even in North Carolina.

Good luck with your research and future plans.
