I'm a 28 year old single guy, Bartender, looking to move to San Diego from Kansas. I've found plenty of places to live on craigslist but need to know what area would be best for me. I am looking to be as close to the beach as possible and since I will be working as a bartender I'd like to live and work close to where all the popular bars and nightclubs are. I found a place on Promontory st in Mission Bay that seemed great but don't know much about how nise the area is. I'd like someplace that isn't really trashy and that I won't have to worry about being killed or robbed. Walking distance to the beach would be preferred. Also have found places in Valley Center, Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Mesa. What's the best, most fun, nicest place to live for a young single bartender?!?!

Sass is right. Not much nightlife/bars in any of the other places you mentioned.

I Lived in Pacific Beach about 8 years ago...so much fun! If you're young and single, then PB is the place for you!! Most of the nightlife is walkable or a short cab ride away, such a great place to live...enjoy it!

I just did a google map search and PB looks to be no more than a 5 minute drive from the Mission Bay house on Promontory Dr. Do you think that would be a pretty good location?

If you mean Promontory St:

Promontory St, San Diego, CA 92109, USA - Google Maps

It is less than a mile to the beach, and very close to the bay.

It's very close to the Crown Point section of the bay, which is very nice and has some very expensive homes. Also has a great path along the bay for riding bikes, jogging, skating, etc.

The bay is great for boating, kayaking, water-skiing, jet skiing, etc.

There are bars, restaurants, and clubs located near the beach, and along Garnet St. and it is a great party area for 20 somethings.

RD5050 nailed it. If I had to live in the PB area, the Crown Point area is where I'd want to be. In addition to PB/MB, you might wanna check out the bars in nearby Ocean Beach.

What about Golden Hill? I found another place that seems nice with a nice family renting out the place in Golden Hill. I see that it's further away from the coast than Mission Bay and PB but I'd probably feel better trusting a family with kids and a nice house in a good area then a bunch of young guys in a party house near the beach since I won't be able to meet any of them until I actually get out there. Is Golden Hill a nice area? How long would it take to drive to the beach or drive to potential bars where I might find work? Is Balboa Park a nice place? Do they have a dog park?
