What's the name of this place? Are you talking about City Deli?

City Deli is on 535 University Ave, have not tried it yet. I'm talking about the Huge Mkt and deli at the so/west corner University & 8th. Front entrance is at corner down the hall to cashiers and all the Import stuff/produce etc. Lots of nice stuff. Steve

Just found yesterday a HUNGARIAN place in LA area that will mail all your needs. "Otto's Hungarian Import Store, 2320 West Clark Ave, Burbank, Calif 91506 Phone Orders (818)-845-0433: Fax orders (818)-845-8656 (24 hrs): E-Mail Hungimprts@AOL.Com .Click on the cite as they have a wide variety of AUTHENTIC HUNGARIAN PRODUCTS. I may just drive up there to stock up on some fresh sausage (Kolbase) and smoked bacon (szalonna) for the freezer. If your Hungarian then this is the place to be at from what I recognized and read. Cool, I'll have to check it out. I've been looking for a Hungarian restaurant and the only one I could find is in Ramona of all places. It's called Gulyas Csarda and here's a link to a year old article from the Ramona newspaper Hungarian Restaurant Opens in Wynola I wonder if it's still open?

sdubanite: Gulyas Csarda not listed in phone book, probably not in business any more. A shame. The name would go over BIG in Hungary but not in a ENGLISH environment. On Ottos Hungarian in Burbank, E-Mailed them on SUN (they are closed) an on Mon they phoned me in Baja as to my needs, and I gave a order that was to be sent out that afternoon. Hows that for service. They will mail to my PO box in San Ysidro. They also E-Mailed me a ONLINE site of which I printed out a copy of the products/prices for future orders. Some Items that I want will have to wait for me to drive to Burbank due to Refrigeration needs. Do not want stuff coming to Mexico (even if packed in DRY ICE). They have Original HUNGARIAN RED PAPRIKA (Sweet or HOT). Online is "http://members.aol.com/HungImprts/OttosCat.htm" Try it out. Steve

Do the Jewish delis make sanwiches the same way they do in NYC/NJ? Basically, is the Sloppy Joe some unidentifiable, chopped meat, or is it roast beef, swiss, coleslaw and russian dressing on rye?

if you weant the best deli, go to D.Z. akins in lamesa. It has a huge menu everything from matzo ball soup to liverwurst(chopped liver) and a full bakery with challah and homentashen and the whole stuff. i live near there and it is the best. the sandwiches are huge and the dill pickles on the table. and, the soups are awesome. Cabbage rolls to die for.

Computer crashed a week ago and just got it working again. Meanwhile, I received a order from "OTTOS". 5 different Jams from Hungary, original SWEET and HOT Red Paprika, for Goulash, tried the HOT, used 1 tsp and should have been 1/2 as it burned my Palate, Poppyseed Rolls (mak's retes) and Walnut Rolls (dio's retes) also and my mouth watered as its been over 30 yrs since my mother last made some. Hope some of you tried their Online Catalog info and prices. Steve (Pista)

^^Awesome! Keep us posted if you come across a Hungarian restaurant in San Diego. There used to be one in Chula Vista years ago called Tojak, that has since closed.
I absolutely loved Budapest when I was there a couple of years ago!
