I am leaving for San Diego on Monday. Leaving my small hometown and family on the East Coast. I am transferring for work and will be making good money but all of a sudden I am having crazy second thoughts. Everything is packed and we are ready to go....and now I want to take it all back. I know this is a personal thing but I guess I needed a place to vent.

Have you ever been here? If so, did you like it? If not, what makes you think you won't. Positive attitude goes a long way, so does a negative one. Make the best of it. You're moving to a really nice area.

Why specific 2nd thoughts? Provide us some context, background (though be brief), and we can offer some informed feedback to you.

Not sure to be honest. I have been to SD many times and loved it. Just at the last minute felling like I'll miss my small town and end up not liking the busy overcrowded feeling of a big city.

This is not an uncommon feeling. Kinda like buyers remorse when someone buys a new car and then goes "should I have done that". It will be what you make of it and what you like and do not like. For many the hectic life style is fun, for others it isn't. You will not know until you have experienced it. I used to love being there and now I am happy I left. Others can never see themselves leaving. You will not know until you have been there for an extended time.

Oh I am currently looking to move to ............ FL and I am a native Californian (SoCal)

Just remember, there are only a few choices in life that are anywhere near truly permanent and this is definitely NOT one of them. Go all in with a positive attitude and give it at least a year.

if you're not uprooting a family you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. even if you don't want to stay in SD long term (majority of transplants do not stay) you will have a fantastic experience. Good luck!

It is very normal to feel that way. Think of your move as an adventure. Focus on the positives and remember nothing is permanent.

You might have the same feelings, or worse, if you were to leave San Diego and move back home. It's common to second guess our decisions. Try to enjoy the ride.

Unless your job truly sucks when you get there I don't think you will have any regrets. I would love for the opportunity to come my way to move back. Good luck!
