There are many unofficial groups of couples/families who live together to afford a home. We had a home in our hood with 3 families in a 2 bedroom home. They used the living room as another bedroom and the garage as a living room, with the sofa, tv etc. They parked their 4 cars on the street.

My sister was in one of these "cohousing" arrangements. Her husband ended up leaving her for one of the co-housing members. Another one of her cohousing members died of a drug overdose, screaming kids running thru the house as other stoned members didn't know what to do. "Hey, should we call the ambulance now or wait a while, he already looks dead". She had enough and is now happily married with 2 kids in a "normal" suburban house.
You really need to know the people your moving in with.

Which specific cohousing group? Sounds like a frat house.

You should always review the community before joining. In Tucson we have a few good ones that are nothing as described with your sister. It depends on how they are governed and structured. The one your sister was in was not worth joining for the way they did things but that does not mean all are like that.
