I live in Hillcrest, San Diego, 92103.

-Interesting peoplewatching
-well-covered by buses
-convenient Ralph's
-lots of civic pride
-a "town council", which brings in reps from city government to talk each month (other districts have this, too, but HC's is the first I had ever heard of)

-there seem to be a lot of businesses that fail pretty quickly
-snobby. Especially with the food scene and the historical architecture
-deliberate lack of box stores and such
-homelessness (worse than I had ever seen in NYC or LA)
-intolerance of people who aren't liberal

I'll offer up two, since I moved this year.

Birdland (west part of 92123)
Likes: Quiet, location, little crime, mostly owner occupied with pride in most homes
Dislikes: Few really. The traffic sucks during the hospital employee rush hour traffic M-F. Was sorry to leave but kept the house and rent it out now.

San Pasqual Valley (92027)
Likes: Country-like living, quiet, private, large lots, farm stands, wildlife, almost always sunny, no crime, surprisingly close to major shopping, and commute to SD isn't too bad
Dislikes: Have to drive anywhere and everywhere, some very hot summer days and some very cold winter nights, wildfire fear, tough to get friends to come up (people don't like driving so far except for work)
